100 ton Missile bay: possible configuration

As part of my project I thought i would do the big dady of missile launchers, the 100 ton bay.

Up front I will say, i may not have the dimensions exactly right. My ruler in blender is a bit finicky.

s yu can see multiple launch tubes are featured, each box fires one missile at a tie, which is reloaded fromt eh ready ammo stored int eh bay.

Ammo containers are loaded into the reload mechanism which strips individual missile" sticks" out of the container and transfers them by a series of moving clamps. the canisters on the top level are the active canisters. they are emptied, and a new canister replaces it from one of the containers stored in the lower area.

blast panels, separate the levels so that an explosion on the top section will not translate to the lower area...unless a warhead actually detonates then everyone is ....in deep guacamole

As a shipping container is emptied it is cycled out of the bay to a storage area, or ejected from the ship.

As a tube i fired, the spent casing is ejected, and a blast of inert gase is used to ensure everything is kicked out of the tube, and no debris is in the tube. this is to prevent "FOD" from getting jammed up in the works and bringing the whole process to a grinding halt.

in the main body of the bay, is a small fire control station that can be operated locally or slaved to a remote station elsewhere. as is standard the entire assembly takes up about 100 dT, and is armored as well as the rest of the ship.

This model extends out from the hull, however other models may be flush mounted, or even recessed into the hull slightly.

for safety the bay is filled with inert gas, or depressurized to prevent fires, and everything is coated with an anti-static, anti-spark material. and no sources of combustion are allowed in the area.

in theory if loading crew was provided fresh 1 ton conainers could be mved into place as fast as they were emptied, allowing the ship to fire a stead stream of missiles non stop....not sure if that would work int he rules however.

More to come...I can hear the groans from here :) ..don't worry sooner or later i will get bored of this.

I was thinking - seeing as heat is a problem on spaceships - if the individual missile containers were pressurised they could be "fired" by simply blowing the end hatch off their tube so the missile's engine starts up away from the ship.

Cold fire systems are pretty standard on most submarines which use compressed gas to get the missile up to the surface where it's rockets kick in.


So putting a small pressurized cylinder in the base that kicks the missile free before it fires up it's drives would be easy enough...If in your universe missiles of the proper tech level use gravitics it wouldn't be needed.
