IIRC, you need serious amounts of negative and positive mass. (Solar amounts)

The Alcubierre geometry also has problems because of the side effects, tachyonic-wise I think. Maybe this is what Anthony refers to. Overall, I don't think it is practical method, assuming it would work at all, which is debatable.
 
The problem with the alcubierre warp drive going FTL is that it turns out you have to be moving energy along the edge of the field at superluminal velocities relative to the space they're in, which is a nono (the idea of the alcubierre warp drive is that you can get around the light speed barrier by moving the space itself).
