2300ad an intro, opinion, and pitfalls

Hey guys as an old stallwart CT player I never got into T2.3K, but of late its peaked some interest in a mainly human setting with a smattering of trans. Now I do have an old photocopy folder, but am thinking of picking up the original genuine copy - but after flicking through the rules I cant help seeing some gaps! Like where do you come from? There is only a brief list of planets, with some nations not even getting to the bench. Is there a decent resource site that expands all this? It seems to me to be a solid rule set, just chucking the question out there, what should I get, and any links etc would be greatly appreciated

The Earth/Cybertech Sourcebook makes sense of the nations and their relative power in the Core.

The Colonial Atlases can also make a lot of sense out of the setting and its nations.

For getting into 2300AD, I highly recommend picking up the 2300AD CD-ROM from Marc Miller's http://www.farfuture.net/ - for $35 you get every bit of published 2300AD stuff in good quality PDF format, plus some never-published stuff as well.

While not being a big fan of Mongoose, I recommend the Mongoose 2300 book and the old supplements (Colonial Atlas for sure). The Mongoose stuff is great on including a lot of the information on the nations and history. It's also the meatiest 2300 book out there.

The older supplements are fantastic for specific locations. The Aurore series and Colonial Atlas do wonders for getting a grip on the setting.

The Mongoose 2300 Tools for Frontier Living is also excellent in its discussion of colonies.

(The original game system is really wonky and dated. A T2k/TNE version of it would be bloody awesome.)

And one of the best sites out there...
