2320AD Early Release Sample

Let me be the first to say:

Very Nice Indeed.

Layout and typography is clean and elegant; text is very concisely written; intro addresses precisely those central issues that interest the newcomer (= me, I'm a very recent convert to 2300AD); and I notice a certain shift of thematic focus, from gear to people, that I like.

I had no intention of getting another T20 product, but I will.
Put differently:

w00t111!!11 :D

Thanks, I'll take credit for the layout and typography but Colin gets all the credit for the material itself. Good stuff it is too!

Thanks. It's been fun, and I'm really looking forward to expanding on it in follow-up materials.

-cough-cough- Back to bed for me. I called in dead to work today.

Looks good, nice print-layout and well readabel font.

One question:

Could there be a PDF-version optimized for screen reading (smaller/no margins, maybe drop the starfield sidebar) later on? Would make it easier to use on some smaller (800x480) displays

FANTASTIC!! Can't wait for my copy. Just an aesthetic suggestion, page numbers, maybe centre bottom rather than on the side or centre right. Great fonts, layouts.

Well looking at the example above I can see that it is better than an updated playtest doc and moving on well to be a final product.

I know Hunter that you and Mal have had hmm lets say your differences in the last few days but if you take from hes posts that you need to get your customer confidence back take things slowly and dont rush things just to get them released.
In the end Colins work does deserve that time being well spent.

Very nice Hunter! If the layout is consistent though out, then even this "early release" promises to look good.

Any thoughts on what to stick in that white space at the end of page 3?

Nice. I'll be buying at least one of the forms of this game. I dig the retro 2300 font and the art of that ship brings back fond memories.

Assuming there is room for revision before the paper version: About the only thing that bothered me a lot was the list of aliens. Can we get a paragraph blurb for each one, or perhaps a 'mugshot' line up like in the original 2300 book? For some reason, having the Ebers described as "Big with long arms" irritates me.

The AGRA would probably still be a deep, dark secret or their existence at least not well-known. The so-called "Little Guys" would probably have a proper name if follow-up missions ever made it out there. The Aquilans, Medusae, and the Enemy probably shouldn't even be on the list as they're "vanished, presumed extinct" type races.

The list is a short reference list, with far more detail coming out in the actual aliens chapter.
I do understand what you mean, though. The list needs to be short and concise, as it is just for the intro chapter, but maybe it needs a little more thought.
I'm sure Hunter is gonna love me if I change that list.

LOL! Well the nice thing about PDFs is they are fairly easily updated. So if you feel the need to make changes to that list, let me know.

As Colin noted though there is an entire chapter on the Aliens.

With this much action going on, I do feel a lot more confident about this project finally coming to fruition.

I'm sorry I ever doubted you, Hunter.

I second TWILIGHTS question, and also ask for an update as to the release date.

Hunter and Ted are both working on the two versions. Ted and I are still trying to figure out where we are in regards to art. Hunter asked for, and received, the datasets for the various starmaps last night, so work is still ongoing. I have a couple of quick revisions to make, but that is almost finished, too, and I should have those last bits off to Hunter in the next couple of days.
Beyond that, I don't know.
