25mm Miniatures in the works?

While there are a few things that can be used for humans, I would dearly love to see figures for Traveller. There is almost nothing that could be used for merchant types, or even Scouts. Sure, you can raid Warhammer 40K for marines, but what about navy types? Any sort of Aslan or Vargr is almost impossible, forget about K'kree, Droyne or Hivers. :( Is there any hope that this wish will come true?

No you can't. Warhammer 40K figures are horrible.

First of all, they are 28mm, not 25mm. There are other 28mm ranges out there now, though, so that isn't as big a problem as it was.

Second, they've got all these weird inflato-weapons, that are just ridiculously out of scale. And that's just the guns, and not the weird swordy-things.

Third, they look wrong. There are lots of pictures of Traveller marines and other military personnel, and they _don't_ look anything like any Warhammer 40K figures I've seen (well, maybe some of the Imperial Guard figures...)

Fourth, Warhammer 40K figures cost an arm and a leg. There are many other ranges out there that are much cheaper, and look better.

On the other hand, they are as common as dirt, and if you are feeling lazy they are easy to get hold of, and I suppose you could even play Warhammer 40K with them...

All of the above is true...

but...

when you already HAVE 4 500 pts of imperial guard...

(you know they fit in Gurp's 'carboard heroes' hex maps okay too...)

Years ago I found a few boxed sets of minatures meant specifically for Traveller manufactured by Grenadier. One set of 10 was characters another was aliens with pairs of Vargr, Aslan, K'Kree, Droyne, and a single Hiver, Virushi, and a winged race. Might still be able to find them if you search hard enough, or if the molds still exist, the company may produce them again.

But do you like them or not? :D

Okay, seriously now, there are a few figures in the 40K line that can be used. Granted they are way over priced, but desperate times call for extreme measures. (Or at least, so says the current government here in the good old U. S. of A.)

Besides, without Hivers and Vargr and Aslan (oh my!) it's all just blobs of lead on the table. :(

I have that set too, as well as the alien creatures set (complete with Crested Jabberwock) and a unit of TRAVELLER Imperial Marines in Cbt armor. Unfortunately Grenadier doesn't exist any more so I doubt we'll be since remolds of them :( Your best bet for finding the old stuff is ebay. I've found a few sets there from time to time....

My .2 Cr worth:

I'd just like to see any Traveller miniatures.
I'm not picky about size; 15mm or 25mm or whatever.
I'd just like to be able to buy some. Please! :D

You might want to try Ground Zero Games. I had seen some of their 25mm figs for Stargrunt, and they looked pretty good. A lot of figures had soft caps, and properly scaled weapons. They have an online catalogue here. I can't vouch for their service, since I have not ordered from them, but I was impressed by the minis.

As I have stated in other previous, related threads, GZG is your best bet, and their mail order service is very good.

While the people and weapons are a bit large (something I don't mind for a vaguely representational miniature...), there are also some good bits in the Void line from I-Kore. Happily, these tend to be some of the less popular bits ("Hey, this guy looks normal. Put him back.") like the Insurgents, Enforcers, and Commandos...

Similarly underdressed military types can be found in the (still available via mail order!) Kryomek line...

One could also (lord forgive me for saying this)..use the Wizards of the Coast Star wars minature lines for the RPG... and for the Striker type games ... if they were low tech there are several 25-28mm ranges out now. They would be just perfect for the "Banana Wars" out on the frontier fringe.

WHAT!!!! WHAT DID YOU SAY!!! YOU USED THE DIRTY
WORD!!!.....just dont dooo that!!!...it upsets a few people aroubd here!! Hushhhhh, SSHHHuuu!!

I'm going to add my praises to Ground Zero Games figures. The Star Grunt soldiers seem perfect for Traveller to me, and their service is quite good, I got a shipment here in the US in only about a week (I'm not exactly sure how much I paid for it all what with the Pounds to Dollars and dropping the VAT tax and all).

I got a couple of their resin vehicles too which make serviceable air/rafts and g-carriers.

I believe they have some figures that would be good for female Aslan.

For humans, Copplestone's Future Wars line is excellent. IT's 28mm and go well with your 40K minies. I especially like the citizen militia and the kid with a beaky space marine helmet. Most funny. They also have good SWAT and suits (corporate types...the suit will never go out of style for the powermongering profiteers).

Joe Bob says check it out. I think they may have been mentioned earlier in this thread. Also check out the adventuring archiologists.

There are also the Star Wars 25mm. I occasionally see a box stashed in some gaming corner. I don't know of any really good alien/ non-predator or Aliens movie figs that are currently on the market.

For Aliens/ Monsters ? I recomend the Tyranid Genestealers from Warhammer 40k .....

At 28mm, and with six limbs they look big and ugly enough to scare any player character.....

Hell yeah! I only wish some one made suitable stand-ins for the various alien species from Traveller.
