A-Z Traveller Blog Challenge

Today's topic is Ancient Artifacts.

And I've got a small comment for consideration: for the Interphase Device, instead of losing a point of INT, he could lose a point of SAN (in other words, SANity), with the results being referee-managed.

I have a fairly large pile of word generators...

Holy cow, that's incredible. I officially have a new favorite word generator! It's really got a great set of features. I've never seen a word generator provides the option of separating the syllables. That's a huge help for pronunciation. Being able to set syllable length, phrase length, and the start/end consonant options are big pluses also. Is there any way to randomize the syllable length within a phrase - say if I wanted words of 1 to 3 syllables in a phrase? It would just be icing on the cake.

I wonder why I've never come across it in my Google searches.

Nicely done, Rob! Thanks!

What is ConLang?

And I assume that "Brig" refers to the cell onboard a ship where you put less than cooperative persons, and not the two-masted, square-rigged, sailing ship variety.

Constructed Language.

Traveller has three of note:
Gvegh - best one officially done, has a whole very short story written in one.
Vliani aka Blanidin - a bunch of phrases, which people are trying to extract into a language
Trokh aka Aslan - again, a bunch of phrases and sentences, which people have extracted.

I don't have any links to share - there are several threads scattered within the board; searching by language name should find them, but few are very active.

There used to be a Traveller Languages Mailing list - I don't know where, nor who hosted, but Kenji Schwarz is the linguist doing much of the work.

I'm vaguely peripheral to the movement, mostly because I read almost EVERY POST on the boards.

THe following books are the primary sources:
AM: Vargr
AM: Aslan
Solomani & Aslan
Vilani & Vargr
Alien Realms

I'm interested in conlangs, but not so much the Traveller ones. I used to be into Klingon, and one of my kids is into Quenya.

I'm actually most interested in the construction of scripts for conlangs. Have font editor, will draw.

And for that, the best script comparison site I know of is omniglot.com...

Omniglot is another site I've never seen before. There's some great stuff there, but unfortunately not all the scripts have been turned into fonts. It's been at least a decade since I played with any font creation software. Can you recommend anything? Thanks!

Today's post: H is for Hydroponics

Actually it's more about the relationship between tech levels and food production, which I discovered to be a much more interested subject. Check it out and help me fill in the gaps. Thanks!

First, for those who are interested, I would suggest looking at the online edition of Colonies in Space by Heppenheimer, chapter 9, for what was possible by 1977.

http://www.nss.org/settlement/ColoniesInSpace/colonies_chap09.html

At that time, assuming that the space colonists did not mind a somewhat monotonous diet, it was possible to project feeding 30 to 60 people for a year off of the yield of an acre of growing space.

If you want to email me your Tech Level list, I could do some editing for you. Ancient Technology is one of my many hobbies, agriculture especially. It comes down to, how do you feed your army once you raise it.

Today's Post: A is for Aggravating. :)

I swear, I am just this close to actually trying to do this project. In fact, I had one but then my blogger app killed the post. Grrr.

Excellent work and looking forward to more and yes, just maybe I will get around to doing this challenge. Might help me flesh out the Permatic Imperium better.

Dangnabbit! And me having to move soon too.
