Advice on which reprint volume to purchase?

Background: I'm unlikely to play a tabletop version of traveller, but may play a pbem at some point. I'm interested in picking up background on the traveller universe and I'm not concerned with rules expansions.

With that background, what should I try to pick up first, reprints of the travellers aid society or the alien modules. I'm probably not going to be able to pick up more than one every three months or so. Advice?

Speaking as a fellow Trav newbie:

JTAS before Aliens.

Complete Supplements after that for the library data volumes.

The adventures contain lots of background information on the OTU, too, as well as deckplans and "zoomed in" information: research stations, the Octagon Society, etc. I'd get the Adventures and Double Adventures after Complete Supplements.

All of the books have details on the OTU to some extent. They're all worth having eventually. Save Complete Games for last.

Thanks for the advice. I was leaning torward the alien modules for their data on the eight different races. I was worried that the TAS reprints would be more rule oriented. I also noticed that some of the races pop up in TAS, is the information the same as in the alien modules?

The aliens modules do contain a lot of information you'd find useful. Mine is a personal bias; I own five of the alien books and don't really care for Trav's alien races.

JTAS has a lot of setting info in addition to rules, such as pejorative terms for the Zhodani used by the Imperium military. Good stuff. I don't have the reprints, but own a few issues and have found them consistently enjoyable.

Now going with the idea that starting with the TAS reprints is the best choice, which volume 1 (issues 1-12),2 (issues 13-24), or 3(issues 25-36). I'm leaning toward getting them in order on the thought that they'd build on each other. But if I'm looking to start with the best, any preference?

Are you a fan of the early CT or the later, more built-up CT? The early JTAS have some good stuff (though some of it is repeat from the later LBBs), and the later JTAS drift toward the Rebellion of MT (and IIRC actually get into MT in the last volume of reprints).

I'm looking toward late CT and megatraveller time peiods. I like the whole traveller setting and recently bought milieu 0 off ebay (waiting for it to arrive) just to see the changes.
