Airlock Errata

Either the Standard designs all need to pay 3tons for their first airlock, or the description of Airlock is wrong.

on page 278 it says
"At least one Airlock is required in any small craft or starship, and more than one is usually installed allowing for passengers to emb...One airlock is provided on every hull built at no additional charge but takes up the normal 3 tons of space within the hull itself. Any airlocks beyond this first must be bought and installed seperately."

This seems very clear. None of the sample craft pay this 3 tons for theior "first" airlock.

I am deliberately misreading it to say that the One airlock is free (both cost and space) per 1,000 dt of hull (or part there off)

I raised this topic in Questions - but the only answers were, "I'm not using that rule either".

The Space allocated to the bridge contains some allotment for airlock(s), also weapons lockers, life support, etc etc.... in T20 read "THE BRIDGE"
it makes things much clearer expecially when designing the deck plans.

hope this helps

That doesn;t help - The rules still say that you have to pay 3 tons for an airlock - and none of the standard designs do so.

If this tonnage was alloud to come from bridge space, then so would mechanic shops, vehicle bays etc.

I think page 278 is errata.

It's sloppily written, but the clear intent is that you get one airlock free (in both cost and displacement), but need to give it 3 tons of space when drawing deckplans and the like.

The cost is free (in Credits) but the writing is clear that it takes up 3 tons.

If this refers only to deckplans, it then brings into doubt whether all the other things in this section also just refer to deckplans.

OK, fine. Refuse to appply any common sense at all. If you think it makes more sense that every design is incorrect than that the rule might be loosely worded, there's really no hope for you. Good grief.

FWIW, I reckon that the standard designs are wack. Mainly because they are in nearly every other respect already ...

re: Common sense.

IMTU nobody has to pay for Airlocks, you get an ample sufficiency. If you want "clam shell" type doors for very fast loading/unloading (ie assault shuttles) then I might pay a couple of extra tons.

I'm hoping that the Airlock para gets acknowledged as errata and so far nobody official has commented (yes it's been bugging me). The fighter optional bridge thing bugged me more, but there was an official response (the bridge isn't optional)

I imagine that, if I was planning on much combat, the "no AP bullets" rule would bug me as well, but fighting is very rare IMTU so it doesn;t effect anything.

I suppose, since I'm working on my own ship design anyway, I shouldn;t be worried about the airlock issue, but it still bugs me.
