Anyone else picked up Fading Suns or Dragonstar?

Recently picked up copies of d20 Fading Suns and Dragonstar. Most noticable problem, no vehicle, starship, or world building info. Dragonstar has some vehicle/starship combat rules but nothing major. Good news for T20!

Dragonstar actually looks pretty cool if you are interested in a D&D space setting. Fading Suns looks like Fading Suns (Heh, its never been a big hit with me, too dark IMO).

Still busy with T20, I haven't had a chance to really dig into them as to the crunchy bits. Be interested in hearing what others think of them.

I have not picked up FS20 but, FS is very light compared to some campaigns that I have run with Hard Times & TNE pocket empires. Hopefully, I will get some time to put these ideas on paper. Thus far, everything is scattered on single spaced massively corrected typed pages in Campaign logs.

Are there others out there on the posts who have ran darker campaigns than FS? Also will there room for the Dark in T20. So many questions regarding T20...So little time...can't wait...

I've picked up the Dragonstar Starfarer's Handbook (had it rather early actually). I mentioned the chapter arrangement on one of the playtest boards a few days back, actually. More of the Starship combat rules are covered in the Galaxy Guide from what I've been told, but we'll see. My group is seriously interested in this, so when we wrap up with the T20 playtest as well as my regular Star Wars game, I'll be expected to run this.

Fading Suns D20 I've looked at in a "weird pete's", but the setting dosn't interest me (Dune...yet not Dune...) and I don't impulse buy softcover books.

Speaking of world building and starship design. The D20 Star Wars Alien compendium and Starships of the galaxy are out. I flipped through them in my FLGS, but they are out of my price range ($27 and $22 respectively).

The Starships book had a design system which was on the order of as complex as HG, plus a large compendium of various ships.

The Alien compendium has a "alien animal" creation system similar to Traveller Bk3 system, except less details (Herd animals, Carinvores and Vermin). Plus the large listing of aliens races.

Planning on both as they come available

Comics and RPGs mostly. In a hole in the wall, run-down shopping center, apparently in business for nearly 20 years. Nice guys, I highly recommend them if you are in the Atlanta area. On Canton Rd in Marietta.

Note that Fading Suns D20 covers as much material as the Fading Suns RPG book does, in fewer pages... I think it's not even competetive with T20 in that it appeals to a much different audience demographic... I like the FS cross of Dune and WH40K....

Well, a long time lurker registrering and de-lurking a bit...

I have just got Dragonstar Starfarer Handbook last Tuesday. I'm a longtime Traveller player (since the Black Book with the red strap was released in Spain some 14 years ago, I think). And a FS referee for some years. So I wanted to give my opinion...

Dragonstar is D&D in space. That's neither good nor bad, but it's completly different of T20. And their space combat systeml is great! In the next book (Galaxy Guide) they're going to put a star system creation system, and starship building rules. I like the setting a lot, even with the few info they give in the Starfare Handbook. But it's not T20.

Fading Suns is a wonderful game. The setting is original, and not as dark as you can think, because in there characters are the hope of the universe. It's not your typical "you're doomed and your internal angst will consume you" setting, but more a "universe is dying and only you and your passions can save it". The d20 version is a fine little book, whose most important virtue is to show a wonderful setting to the large d20 fan base... a bit like T20. But it's not T20, of course. It's another setting, another philosophy. And it has no space combat rules!!!!!!!!

Not Just D&D in space, but "Council of Wyrms" meets "Buck Rogers" with NaZi overtones and a touch of spelljammer. I just love those Jackbooted Drow... cool touch.

Again, like FS, not a direct audience competitor with T20. Actually, even less of one than FS.

Dragonstar seems to appeal to my player group... (Those who've had the opportunity to voice opinions to me since I got it, that is.) ... primarily due to it being hard-core FANTASY.

I suspect that the T20 and Dragonstar crowds will NOT be in competition, but cahoots. Borrow fro one into the other type of thing.
