Are Doctors/Medics always "in the rear with the gear" in your games?

yet another doc, not in the rear.

This was a result of a minor manipulation but...

I had a character who wanted to create a 'Combat Monkey'

I warned him that such characters cannot keep their buddies alive in a fire fight NOR would they have much to do for most of the game if they over specialised.

The player also decided to go to college first so that he could "start as an officer" As a result to boost his rolls he started as an academic.

by the time he reached 8th, he was a 3 academic 5th level marine with 16 years in the corps, two purple hearts and MCUF, an MCG (missed SEH by 2) and an Honorable discharge. Went back to school to improve his Honors Bachelor of Nursing into Full MD... but didn't get a level...

A 'combat monkey' Whose best stats are EDU and INT. heh. Oh and as marine he can man the turret.

(note to non combat monkeys... Gunnery is a WISDOM skill. knock yourself out.)

Of course there's such a thing as TOO much thinking. I've got one player who wants to buy all sort of clever gizmo's (like marbles to scatter on the deck when being boarded) guns to hide everywhere and clothing and toolkits for every ocasion. The most evil thing I can think of doing is letting him SPEND all his money on all that stuff. Let him CARRY all that stuff. Then throw a situation at the party where they have to RUN.

Mwuhahahahahahaha! (Yeah Kevin I know you're reading this... so think of what I'm NOT telling you.)
Why of course I read this...but I already know that is your style. But sometimes I am buying for the group rather than myself.

Once, one of my Players, a nurse herself (working on the same ward as I did) wanted to play some real gun bunny, so started a career in Marines (MT). Just after her 1st term she was tossed into OCT, made an Officer and later on accumulated much medic skill (around 4 or 5). That was only topped by her Gauss weapon skill. So when the shooting started she always got her share of downed NMEs. But afterward she always treated the bad guys, since they must be trialed.
Oh, and no looting of course.
