This is the ship I designed for the recent BCS tournament (See the Classic Traveller forum). Specs were 1000 MCr max, Jump-3, Maneuver-3, TL-12.
First part of a design in my mind is the computer...Always max for the TL. Then I figure out the main armament. Missiles in this case. I went with 2 batteries of 6 (Rating 3) mostly for the hit shift. A level 3 missile can hit a small agility 6 craft, whereas a level 2 can't. This left one hardpoint free for the Sandcasters...They were an afterthought, and didn't influence the battles at all.
Next step is maxing Agility...Unfortunately, with the TL12 power plants, I could only go to a max of 5. I don't bother with emergency agility...Wasn't really worth it, though with the weapon load-outs, I probably could have just used emergency agility as standard...But I don't really like that rule.
Throw the rest into armor (But make sure I have at least some).
I wanted more than one ship to take advantage of the class discount. I originally went with a 400 ton hull, but that didn't work out for some reason that I don't recall. Two Aristinas made it close to the 1BCr mark.
I never designed ships at a non-TL 15 before, so this was an interesting challenge. I went 4-1 in the tournament, tieing for 1st place with two others.
Aristina is my Goddess of luck, but in the first game, she didn't help me out (I got two hits, which didn't pen a damper in 6 turns.)
