Attempt at Character Creation

so you roll or point buy or what have you and you get a set of numbers, between 3-18 (probably you wouldn't do as relatively high of set of numbers as DnD because you don't want everyone to be noble and educated and smart and fast and strong and wise and likeable and tough)

so for example you have something like

Str - 6
Dex - 12
Con - 9
Int - 10
Wis - 10
Cha - 18
Edu - 11
Soc - 5

than you pick race (Standard Human)

than roll for Tech Level (Very High, TL 15, +2 Edu, A Starport, LoPop Va)

than get 3 skills plus T/Computer (so T/Computer, T/Astrogation, T/Communications, T/Mechanical) (I don't get a choice at all) as well as K/Homeworld

than World Feats (these don't count against your Human or First level feats, right?) (Vac Suit and Zero-G/Low Grav)

(and I have the regular DnD books (3.5), it is just the prior history thing, and two new ability scores, that are thowing me)

than you pick human feat (natural talent: Telekinesis), height and weight

next you pick a first class(can only be a Scout of the service classes, so huzzah)

I start with 20 skills (4 in gather information, leader, liaison, driving, as well as 1 in each of my world ones) and armor prof light and weapon prof marksmen and Contact Specialist

I get 8 stamina (how much lifeblood?)

if I didn't take scout, would I be able to be a scout first level or not? (the rulebook is not clear here)

could I choose to delay and take university first?

anyways, I will take scout first, I get routine and survive (+4000xp)no bonus, than I apply age effects and level (to level 3)

I keep doing this until the max terms are up, only I can't continue in the class if I don't roll high enough

if I fail my roll to continue employment than I can take another prior history if one is open to me (as in I have taken a level in that class and fulfill the requirements), but if I can take no other employment, than I am booted out early (but as long as I don't roll a 20 I can always quit prior history)

I am a little bit confused by the order, it says that reenlistment is after applying expereince, but I thought that you could only (For services) take a class oher than your service type after you had mustered out, but you don't know if you muster out until after you take the class

it is confusing

I think that I understand mustering out

Actually you don't need to only pick each once so you could spend two of your choices on T/Mechanical (for example) and have T/Mechanical rank 1 rather than rank 0.

The other part about being limited to the Vacuum column is more confusing. I think the Ni and LoPop column is meant to be used for both those designations which would add Ride (and being an Untrained skill choosing it you start at rank 1) and Knowledge/Any to your list.

Correct, they are free. Except for forgetting the Very High Tech Feat of Vessel/Grav and the automatic Pilot skill rank 0 that comes with it.

Lifeblood is equal to CON, usually.

Specifically "Class" levels in Scout (or any Service may only be gained (usually) while actually in the related "Prior History".

Scouts are the exception. Once you have a term of Scout "Prior History" and muster out you may still gain level in the Scout "Class". Personally I feel this should be restricted to Detached Duty dischargees (roll of 3 on Survival Mishap table or voluntary termination of service) and not to those Dishonably Discharged or terminated for Medical resons (roll of 4-6 on Survival Mishap table).

This is the other major wrinkle in Prior History and a possible exception to the no service class levels outside of prior history service.

I allow one service Class level while in University IF the character is in the appropriate OTC/Academy but Scouts don't have one so its a moot point.

You can pursue University at any time, as well as most of the other Prior History paths, only the Services impose an age limit on recruits (the book mentions 38 years as the cap for Marines, as an example I think).

I think you have it about right.

You should apply each term of Prior History experience to a Class or Classes before rolling for reenlistment/continuing or voluntarily leaving.

You have the priority backwards there. You can only take Class levels in the Services while in the same Prior History but you don't need to take any levels in the Service Class and can take levels in any Class you meet the requirements of.

Hope that helps and that I got that all right and coherent (typing while watching Simpsons might not be the best idea ;) ).
