Personal History:Born in to the upper ranks of the Prole community Azalie received a good basic and prepetory education, she would pass her University entrance examinations but failed to achieve marks high enough to secure her any open place and was forced to submit herself to the Draft and was placed in the Consular Guard Axillary Infantry and soon after finishing her Basic and Advanced Individual Training was foreword to the Protected Forces school before being assigned to the Fleet on a Ships Troops assignment, hear she would meet and become the lover of a Guard Psionic Operations Officer & Instructor who Illegally trained her in the use of a number of Psionic abilities over the next two years wile she would distinguish herself in the line of duty until she was wounded in the line of combat and a Neural Imaging Scan revealed unusual brain activity normally seen only in active Pisonics. Forced to flee to avoid aggressive re-education she left the Consulate with no real destination in mind, deathly afraid of ending up living in a nation where Moral Degenerates and Insane people where allowed to menace the community she avoided the Imperium instead headed to the Client Sates where she found that even the Zhodani Client States where no better than she had bean told all her life the Imperium was. Eventually she found herself on Utoland with no prospects, no plans and no money. After a few months of bouncing from one un- or semi-skilled job to the next she eventually was shanghaied in to indentured service as a Asteroid Miner when she answered a Job Advertisement for a Small Craft Pilot. After a few months of prospecting she found a way to skip out on her "Employer" and eventually helped an Imperial Academic accused of Espionage escape from Tavrchedl' custody.

She again found herself in the Client States bouncing from one odd job to an other learning all kinds of things wile on the run from Zhodani Intelligence who she sometimes inadvertently or surbtishaly helped as she Free-booted and Trouble-shot her way through the next year......

Until she awoke in a guests Stateroom aboard the Echtovr Dazhia dressed in a sanitised Guards Officer Uniform.

over the last couple of years around Christmas time Azalie and a few other characters from an A06 game I ran two years ago have bean bouncing around doing one-shot adventures, last year an other character from that group got a lead role in a short Beltstrike campaign, this year the campaign is Vlezpridlishav with Azalie as the Lead/Carry-over character, things are going well so far, Azalie is helping the Imperial and Darrian characters adapt to their situation all the wile helping them to plan a Jail Brake, from the Joe's she is receiving Zhodani Commando Training, she's helping instruct the other PC's in the use of selected pieces of Zhodani pattern equipment and from the Imperial Marine Commando Major PC she's learning to fill the holes in what the Joes consider Commando School, she has a few level 0 skills coming and will have opportunities to take them to level 1, also she may have the opportunity to learn new Psionic Talents.
 
Why would developing psi powers be bad in Zho land? Why weren't talents discovered as youth? Why not promoted to Intendent and what is an A06? Exped to Joetown?
 
Because the Joe's have rules with few grey areas when it comes to Psionics, Your a Noble (or intendant) and get trained as a Psi, or you are born to Prole parents but possess outstanding Psi natural talents (Psi 9+) and are raised to Intendant status and receive Psionic training.

if your not Soc A+ unless you have outstanding Psi abilities you are not Psi trained, because it's a waste of resources. if your a Prole and develop Psi abilities on your own it's a miracle and clearly should be raised to intendant status. If someone trains you and you don't have the minimum Psi stat well they have broken the Law and you have become a walking, talking, living & breathing Rules Violation, they don't know what to do with you, so they lock you up till they do, along the way the "Thought Police" make you tell them who trained you so they can be punished.

the Joes do have a safety net to find any "Wild Psis" but in truth it spends most of it's time debunking folks that are mistaken about undiscovered Psi talents and rooting out people that have bean illegally trained.

so what dose eventually happen to you once they figurer it out? well if your case is presided over by liberal and Progressive Nobles they raise you to Intendant status and pack you off to remedial Intendant school for the next couple of years, if not they could just chuck you back in the hole where they have bean keeping you until some one else wants to look in to it, you could end up spending the rest of your life as a test subject in a Psion R&D lab, or they could go in to your head and strip you back parapsychology as far as they need to to remove your Psi abilities, if that's all the way back to Autonomic Functions and Mussel Memory so be it they can always re-build you back in to a productive member of Prole society, only you may not be you any more.

so if your choices where to be forced to betray a friend, loved one or lover, then possibly spend the rest of your life locked up, be robbed of an important part of your life or even face "Death of Personality" wouldn't you Run?.

the Joes have bean doing the Psi thing for a very long time and in their own opinion are very good at it, their society has begun to crystallise, they don't handle atypical situations in their forte subject well unless it's at the forefront of Psionic Theory where you expect to find things that fall outside of your understanding.
 
The Zhos won't punish the rulebreaker, nor their "victim" - if, in fact, someone who intentionally breaks the rules, they are adjusted, not punished. It's seen as a form of treatable mental illness.

For those who value their mental integrity, that may seem like punishment, but it's clear from AM:Zhodani that the Zhos don't consider it the same.

The victim of illicit training would most likely receive some training, and quite possibly be raised to intendant status anyway if they could be useful. Or would be adjusted so they didn't have the skill anymore, and compensated for the lost time. And, in either case, be gently adjusted to see the error of their recept of training illicitly.

It's a society of compulsive conformists.
 
In a more concise way what I was trying to say, but unless the training was forced on to you the Trainee is also the Law Beaker since they would have consented and actively participated in the process, so both participants would need "Corrective Measures", starting with very stern talkings to, Interviews to find the root of the aberration then Adjustment and Re-education.

Joe Prisons aren't like ours, their short to intermediate holding till they can figure out where to send you to be fixed properly.

the Joe system works extremely well for the overwhelming majority of untold Trillions of people in thousands of inhabited star systems and has done so for millennia, they live peaceful, healthy, happy (or so highly contented that it's indistinguishable from true happiness), productive lives, it's a crying shame that by choice or circumstance that non-conformist elements arise, but a system of "Corrective Measures" exists to set things right when they do, even if on the rare occasion one or two slip by because their circumstance is even more unusual than the normal aberration.

Azalie has all ways bean played as a good little Prole who made the mistake of letting her lover train her in Psionics. In the current campaign she is bean made useful wile she is being assessed for either being raised to Intendant status or being sent off to undergo "Corrective Measures"
 
Well, IYTU, you can do with the Zhodani whatever you want. However, in my view:
1. That a Prole could have unlicensed psionic training over a period of two years is practically impossible, especially if they are serving in the military. There's no need for a neural scan or anything. At one point a Tavrchedl' agent - openly visible as such, of course - will routinely check her surface thoughts and discover one of two things: a) That she's hiding something that merits further investigation or b) that he can't read her thoughts, which <i>definitely</i> merits further investigation.
2. Any Zhodani would have extreme difficulty keeping anything a secret. They aren't psychologically wired to hide things. Zhodani would also not think of reeducation as "taking away a part of their life" any more than one would think of being cured of a phobia as doing so.

Now of course the Zhodani Consulate is big, and highly improbable exceptions can happen. But it would make this character a very special snowflake indeed.
 
The refined Zho treatment being described is more in line as I see it. So I suspect she's a deep paranoid and that wasn't fixed causing her to flee.

The narrative says she was in combat 2 years till wounded. Likely she developed a paranoid sense of danger allowing her to not get caught by enemies (Impies) this was seen as negative and positive at the same time. During war aberrant behavior is frequently overlooked if the soldier is very effective in combat so the Thought Police would closely monitor her, raising her paranoia higher resulting in her fleeing fearing she was set for mindwipe rather than elevation.

Not that it matters as Sir Brad or someone played her as they saw fit.

as to who should have found out about he illicit Psi training? it was the person who trained her, her lover, so it's a case of their being no one there to watch the watcher and due to expediency in a time of crisis some one who should have bean protected has bean hurt.

Again, what you do IYTU is your business, but I do not consider Zhodani proles to be children.

Checking on the mental health of the populace is the job of the Tavrchedl'. A Tavrchedl' officer would neither be operating alone and unsupervised, nor would he, of all people, be likely to foster antisocial behaviour in a Prole.

Of cause, all of this is theoretically possible still. There are trillions of Zhodani, so even in their ironclad system, freak accidents can happen. But it does make the character an extremely special snowflake.
 
In a mixed nationality game the Zho Prole has to be a snowflake, the challenges for the GM and the Player to make and keep the character interesting are too many if they are a quarts statuette like every other prole, they either shatter or become boring to look at fairly fast. unless it's a Zho game (and even then) the Zho Prole is poorly suited to a life of adventure. They may acquire the skill set, but unless they become "Unwell" don't have the mind set for living a life less ordinary.

Many of the Zho merchants are proles. Most of their military, too.

There is nothing that says Zhodani are not risk takers. Only that they consider deception, even mild deception, to be mental illness, and violence to be a last resort as a society (and not an acceptable personal resort). Now, they do seem to consider recklessness to be an issue... but they take some calculated risks in canon....

The nature of Zhodani adventurers is chasing the bigger buck honestly and/or chasing the bigger challenge. Or simple driving curiosity.

AM:Z even mentions that haggling is alive and well in the consulate - it starts with an honest self-believed value, and goes quickly from what you think it's worth to what you'll accept without feeling cheated, but it's still haggling. And if a compromise isn't reached, it's no hard feelings... and no sale.

Which makes the Merchant game pretty much the same, except that one should be able to set a floor value.

Azalie Kendel had spent most of 1106 and the first few months of 1107 bouncing around the Imperial and Zhodani Client States in trailing parts of Forveren sector and the most spinward parts of the Spinward Marches sector working passage on Merchant Ships when she couldn't afford a ticket or pick one up as part of her many jobs, then one afternoon wile enjoying a beverage in a public cafe everything just stopped, she would awaken in a guests Stateroom aboard the Echtovr Dazhia dressed in a sanitised Guards Officer Uniform. over the coming months she would throw her self in to a concord with a collection of abducted Imperials and a Darrian, some she had past acquaintance with, the Zhodani captors tried to use her as a liaison between them and her fellow captives as they travelled onwards on to some cryptic task, constantly being trained for their part in it. Some of her companions here trained in Zhodani Ship producers and all in Environ Suit and EVA, Being a Consular Guard Marine she received other training, focusing on Special Forces type skills, in her spare time during her voyage she would enlist the Aid of the Imperial Commando veterans amongst her companions to broaden her training in hopes that it would aid in their trio of failed escape attempts.

After the groups fated roles had bean fulfilled she, her companions and some of the crew of the Echtovr Dazhia would find themselves trapped on sparsely inhabited planet being hunted by a hostile minor human race that had recreantly colonised the system. they would spend months playing a deadly game of Hide & Seek with ever dwindling supply's until they could be rescued by a small Zhodani fleet lead by the Echtovr Dazhia. it would take her a number of years to find her way back to the Client States, she would spend much of it in psionic suspended animation in an attempt to escape her conflicted feelings about the possibility of returning to the Consultant, but when awake she would have many adventures, battling Varg Corsairs, defusing diplomatic incidents, solving mysteries and rescuing fellow travellers in distress.

She would once again find herself in Forevern sector in 1112, now with feelings about her place in the Consulate and the wider universe, although officially raised to Intendant status she again travels on her old Zhodni Prole or Imperial Resident Alien passport, doing whatever work comes her way and strengthening her sense of self.
 
Oho! it's bean a wile, wrapped up the last session with this character in early February, the player wants to pick up again. what was she up to before we finished off? well she was working as a small craft pilot for a number of charter firms and a small merchant line for a wile, wile hard up for work between jobs she would rescue a party of Darrians dignitaries (earning herself the "Darrian Friendship Commendation") and would score a "Imperial Friendship Medal" for braking herself and a I.N. Vice-Admiral/Count out of the brig of a band of Varg Corsairs. she worked as an Airborne School Instructor on a TL-6 world being promoted to a courtesy rank of Captain (equivalent) in the six months she was there.

her last adventure was being called up by the Guard to fly an assault boat for some spech-opps types (the Prole W.O. they brought for the job didn't wake up from cold sleep), after a number of successful hops flying in Operators and flying out V.I.P's and wounded she wound intentionally crash her Assault boat in to the military C&C's sensor hub so the Zhos could confiscate the high tech ships they Coup Forces had taken from a now defunct Zho Client goverment, after the crash she would lead her boat crew across the base and commandeer a Type ZS, the Zho Navy don't have a prize crew for it so they let her jump it out to Rally Point. that's where we left it, my notes say she is up for the Zhodani equivalent of the D.F.C. and a Promotion along with an other Service Ribbon.

all up she has had two subjective years and three objective years of time pass, putting her in 1115.

Edit: she has also finished her B.Sc. Astronautics from a Zho University and a B.A. Languages from a Imperial University

bean some time since I last updated, five years in game and out, or there abouts.
the character has moved away from the derelict Imperial sphere of influence and works as a trouble shooter for the Zhodani Government on a freelance basis on the Fringe and in the Client States. she lives in a non-rebellion timeline, she has acquired a ship, loaned it to the Joe government who blew it up on her (they loaned her a replacement for a few years but have recently recalled it), had an interesting run-in with an Ancient Sight and got in to a bunch of other Travller type shenanigans. Since she has liberally used Suspended Animation she has aged quite a bit slower than her chronological age would suggest now being physically around 33.

got a hold of the "Master" copy and the Players copy of the character and noticed I've missed a bunch of -0 skills and left off a couple of -1 skills, I'm auditing the character ATM as we may be planing a kind of regular game or a writing protect soon. when I'm done with the audit I may post a corrected update.

suffice to say this character is very much Heinlein's "Competent (Wo)man"
