"Behind the Claw" reference

Was the "Behind the Claw" reference ever used in Classic Traveller material? Or was it a slang term created for GURPS?

It was certainly used in MT and TNE material, I can't think of a CT reference off hand but I suspect there is at least one.

I'm fairly certain it originated with Traveller's Digest magazine which would technically make it CT.

That's the first reference I can remember too. DGP's initial Four Knights adventure in their first issue of TD has the reporter character winning a "Behind the Claw" prize of some sort that allows him to travel around for a year submitting stories.

I can't remember if that first TD issue was late CT or early MT however.

MT switch is also at the format switch. I know issue 8 was both small format and CT. Issue 12 was large format and MT.

I'm reasonably certain in was late CT, almost certainly 1985. I have memories of it being advertised in either the very last stand alone JTAS issues or the very early issues of Challenge. I am sure it predated MT because the point was made that the DGP task system, which debuted in TD, had been added to Traveller.

Yep, the first ad for TD was in JTAS #21 1985 (if that reference comes from the first issue).

The only reference to "Behind the Claw" that I can find next is the Imperial Encyclopedia (pg.19)
