Beowulf WIP

Andrew Boulton

Finally got around to building a Free Trader. There's still a lot of work to do, but here's a preview...

Nice work.

For one of the oldest Traveller designs, every time I see that ship I still find it sooo good.

Very nice work Andrew.

BTW I found these on the web, many years ago. I thought they were done by Mike Linsemayer, but I've forgotten. I remember showing them to Jesse DeGraff and he liked them, esp the "Battletech" style rocketpods.

I'm not 100% certain the last one is a Beowulf, as the scale and the figure seem to be off. Also the cowlings seem to be a bit small compared to pics 1-3.

Enjoy.

I just started playing around with the front section of a bey last night. Made a sphere, deleted the rear half, squashed it down along the central axis and extruded the last row of vertices.

Not hard at all to do the front end like they show in the GT renders. Yours looks like a more modern version of a bey, more streamlined. I take it this was done in C4d?

I like the elongated version of the Beowolf you've created, andrew - and I agree with The Thing: this looks like a more modern varinat on the old ship.

It looks pretty :) But the burning question for me is, does your 3D program do volume calculations and is your Beowulf scaled to 2800m3? Or did you just go for "style" (nothing wrong with that, just curious).

Comparing this to the original beyowulf renders in some GT products is like comparing some 1970's vans to the vans of the 1990's, the ones that were all streamlines and looked kind of like shuttle craft from STTNG.

I'm not saying the original renders in GT are bad, but this looks sleeker and more streamlined. The older ones look a little rougher and maybe tougher, tho.

Thanks. I've already got #2 and 4, but the others are new.

Yeah. I actually started using the plans atpollard drew up, but then discovered they work out to 400dt, so I tweaked it to get the size down and ended up with this shape.

It's *roughly* correct, but I haven't worked out the exact volume.

Has anyone ever done a 3D render of the classic G-Carrier ? Ordeal by Eshaar has one, and I've seen one in one of MT books (Encyclopedia I think). I always liked how that particular vehicle was designed.

Just as some advice, I'd say the rear section needs some more detail, like maybe emergency vents for the reactor and some acces panels in case the engines ever need replacing.

BYT, did you use negative boleans on the front to cut the windows?
