SOC-14 10K
Part of an on-again/off-again project, now on-again under the aegis of another project or two. I'm sure others have done this for themselves over the years as well but for what it's worth to those who may not have here are my noted errors of the CT Starships from Book 2 (2nd ed):
Scout/Courier (type S)
One of only two original designs that is practically errata free. Good thing too since a lot of Scouts got these things in mustering out
All I'd note is that the description does not specify it is a "standard hull".
Free Trader (type A)
Yep, the only other one that is practically errata free. And the only other muster out Player ship at the time, which may explain why it is also fine.
Just the same note that it is a "standard hull" is all it lacks.
Subsidized Merchant (type R)
Not so perfect but not so bad. A few points need addressing:
It should be noted that it is a "standard hull" and in this case that also means there are 15tons wasted/reserved for Drives upgrades.
There should also be a note that 0.5tons is wasted in the Main hull (thanks to the odd selection of 9 lowberths).
The price appears to have suffered a simple typo and should actually be MCr100.035 (after discount).
Also, the "type R" from Book 5 would make it a "Liner". And the Subsidized Liner (see below) with "type M" from Book 5 would make it a "Merchant". I've always thought the two got mixed up in Book 2 and should be reversed. Subsidized Merchant (type M) and Subsidized Liner (type R) to be correct.
Subsidized Liner (type M)
Also not too bad. Problems found being:
Lacking notation of "standard hull" and the 2tons wasted/reserved for Drives upgrades.
The price appears to have suffered a simple adding error of MCr10 before the deduction and should actually be MCr245.97 (after discount).
And of course the "type" designators as explained in the Subsidized Merchant above.
Yacht (type Y)
Same lack of notation as "standard hull".
Depending on interpretation of the placement of the ATV (aboard the Ship's Boat or not - see description) the ship has either 12tons or 2tons not accounted for. That's left over space not used, which isn't a bad thing. My interpretation of the placement of the ATV is aboard the Ship's Boat so that's 12tons extra space aboard not accounted for in the description. The only places to add it without impacting the price (which is correct) is fuel or cargo.
Mercenary Cruiser (type C)
A pretty messed up ship, possibly partly because of it's 1st ed origins (where it had pinnaces instead of cutters iirc).
First off it should be noted as a "custom hull" which means the build time listed is wrong and should be 28 months.
The biggest error though is it is 20tons over. The easiest fix (least impact on past scenarios and design) is either fuel or cargo. I'd vote fuel.
The price is way under that listed. Interestingly by exactly MCr21 before discount. Interesting because that's the price of sticking beam lasers in 4 of the triple turrets and missiles in the other 4 triple turrets. And really, how much sense do empty turrets make on a Mercenary Cruiser? So either change the price to MCr427.05 (after discount) or keep the price and note the weapon load out (above) as implied.
Also note, while there is room for two more cutter modules the price tag and description do not include them, just the ATV modules that the cutters carry.
Patrol Cruiser (type T)
Finally the last of the originals. Not too bad again, but the price is totally screwed up.
I can't figure out what the price error might be, it's too far out to lunch. The only thing I can suggest is correct it to MCr232.29 (after discount).
While this one is noted as a custom hull the build time is wrong, it should be 16 months.
And the fuel noted in the description is wrong, it should be 150tons (they forgot the power plant fuel), however the hull total is correct so it's just the description is wrong here.
-------
That's it, as far as my notes show, for the original ships from Book 2 2nd ed. The mistakes are copied over into later versions as well I think (like "The Traveller Book") and were never corrected for CT to my knowledge.
