Book 7 Merchant Prince/MegaTraveller question

(wasn't certain which forum to put this in, as it concerns both Classic Traveller and MegaTraveller - hopefully the mods will move it to wherever they feel it is most appropriate)

I may be playing in an online Classic Trav game soon, one with the option of using the advanced char-gen options from Books 4-7. The thing is, while I have Books 4-6, I don't own Merchant Prince.

However... I do own MegaTraveller, and I know that the advanced char-gen options in MT are almost identical to their CT counterparts, with only a few differences. For example, using Book 4, if you roll a 7 on the MOS Artillery table, you pick up the Electronics skill, whereas if you use the advanced rules for creating merchants in MT, that same roll will pick you up the Technical skill cascade instead.

So in short, what I'm looking for is, what are the differences (if any) between Book 7 Merchant Prince char-gen, and its equivalent using the MT rules?
 
Follow-up question, while we're on the topic...

The Department Assignment table for Merchant Prince characters goes from 1 to 7, indicating that a +1 DM is possible, but I don't see anywhere what the requirement for the +1 is. It's probably right in front of me, but I'm not seeing it. Can anyone point out to me what triggers the +1 DM on the Department Assignment table?
 
Note that MegaTraveller exactly copies Merchant Prince -- in other words, someone forgot to convert that part. We've been discussing that in the MT errata forum, including fixing the tables to be more appropriate to the MT rules...
