BRP Traveller

Thanks!

You may want to take a look at this thread re 2300AD BRP though I found it a little too complex for what I'd like in a BRP Traveller. (it's based on RQ3 which while I like bits of don't use all of)

If you wanted to take age into account, you could use the templates (as in GURPS) to represent the character at age 30 (3 standard terms, which seems to have been an average in many parties I've run over the years).

Any players who want older characters could then roll 1D6xINT (or 1D10 if you are feeling generous) extra skill points to add to any of their existing skills (or start new ones perhaps) for each four-year term. Aging rules/rolls could be lifted wholesale from any version of Traveller.

If you had any players who desperately wanted to be younger (for whatever reason...), you could have them roll as above, but reduce selected skills by the number of points rolled.

I hope this helps. I look forward to seeing what you come up with anyway.

Cheers

Hmmmmm... BRP (i.e. Call Of Cthulhu), huh? I've been working on a D6 (i.e. West End Games) conversion because that is the only way I'm going to be able to spoon-feed Traveller to my gaming group.

Those interested in a crossover between Cthulhu and a Near Earth Traveller campaign ought to check out Chaosium's new product: End Times. Based on La Boissse campaign when mankind has to flee Earth to Luna & Mars because the End Times have decended and the Great Old Ones have awakened...

One can only hope that they will include rules and suggestions to carry this out in the Far, Far Future. As I have yet to see a real good horror/sci fi crossover that is NOT a bughunt.

Yes. BRP English page for the French version
The worlds of wonder stuff had a SF section IIRC.
There seems to be a cyberpunk BRP adaptation (in French) .

With West End Games being sold recently it looks like their pdf products aren't available at the moment at rpgnow.com. :(

EDIT: Added link to rpg.net thread on WEG being sold

Mr. Seifert, I'd be interested in that d6 conversion, when it's ready...

But how many times has this been WEG going under?

The understanding is that this is just a print of the PDF files that are already available on the web - http://opifex.cnchost.com/endtime/ - so don't expect any additional material.

End Time has provided some inspiration with regards to professions, so I'll probably end up ordering a copy, but not until there is somehing else I want as well, the overseas shipping really does bump up the cost.

</font>[/QUOTE]I looked at the GURPS stuff (found my GURPS Traveller book) but decided it was just way to complicated to be fun. To think of it, that's always been my general impression of GURPS anyway.

I've just decided to do things the Chaosium way, or probably more accurately, the Call of Cthulhu way, which is to make character generation as quick and easy as possible so that you can get on and play the game.

Anyway, they're only very basic and haven't been added to at all for a few years but I'd be very interested to see what you come up with yourself as I adore the Chaosium system!

Good luck

Thanks for that pointer. I've grabbed those and will give them the once over. The racial stuff will be particularly useful.

Found some Psionics rules for BRP.

Part One Clairsentience, Psychokinesis, Psychometabolism and Psychoportation

Part Two Psionic Rules

Part Three Telepathy and Metapsionics

I'd take some of the mechanics here and mod it to match the standard Traveller Psionicis abilities. (and get rid of the RQ strike ranks) :D

IIRC Pagan Publishing's Coming Full Circle book has traditional Psychic or Spiritualism rules. I'll go over my copy tonight.

More useful stuff, thanks.

I believe I have Coming Full Circle somewhere, may have to check that out.

I'll admit Psionics was low on my lists though. Don't expect to allow Zhodani player characters, so I can always fudge NPCs ;)

Found it. It still has the shrinkwrap on! ;)

Which would answer why I was unaware of the additional rules contained within. Time to bust the shrinkwrap I feel.

I'm glad to see all the interest in this. BRP/Chaosium/RQ is/are my all-time favorite general RPG mechanic. I've always liked the slow character development style of RPG's rather than the level-based systems, and BRP is the best of them.

It's also a hell of a lot easier to teach newbies...

Could you guys let me know what you end up with? I would love to see what you get.

Taking the occasional peek at the journal I've set up will help keep you up with developments, but I'm sure to report back here once I'm done. All the files I produce will be available on the web.

As an aside, I discovered Fasa Trek this year and the first thing I thought was someone merged Traveller with BRP and changed some of the skill names. (then added that boardgame combat system on
toast.gif
) Might be useful fodder there as well, though you're sticking more with CoC for chargen, which is fine.

Mark, I'd like to see that when you're done.
