Bwaps - what can you tell me?

Cheers for that.

Since posting I managed to Google both the Traveller Wiki entry and from there also discovered the writeup in Steller reaches #1 - which is pretty much word for word the Wiki entry.

Also, yes they're in GT: Alien Races 4

I seem to recall one of the their nicknames is, 'newts' - so, going on the Stellar Reaches description, I'm thinking they're essentially uplifted Newts with similar colouring, features and eyes.

Not sure where the Newt nickname started, but there is information on the Bwaps in Gurps Interstellar Wars. It mentions "Newts" as a Terran (?) nickname for the Bwaps. Not uplifted according to IW since Bwaps were listed as a race that came to be known to Terra through contact with the Vilani.

As a Ref, they are one of the best 'problem encounter' forces ever devised. Just have one in charge of coordinating departing flights when your PC's are in a hurry to lift off.

I can tell you that a Bwap played by a gifted player is a joy to behold. They make for excellent non-violent speed bumps to anyone's plans as they attempt to bring order out of chaos.

A quick Google gets this:

And yes, SuperGamera I like your description!

They're nicknamed newts because they have a certain resemblance to newts. They have a certain resemblance to newts because parallel evolution gave them some of the same features as newts. That doesn't make them uplifted newts any more than Aslans are uplifted cats[*].

A Bwap (Newt) role-played well is a joy to behold. I'm betting good money that 99% of Traveller players cannot role-play them faithfully for any decent length of time.

And the 1% of Players who can role-play them accurately? Those players most likely are annoying, retentive, obsessive-compulsive individuals in real life. Hehe.

Just my 12 cents. (2 cents plus 10 due to USA inflation)

Thanks for the info and links, all.

I've now completed and submitted my effort for this year's Traveller Calendar.

See if I got it right, when it comes out :)

Bwap

Thanks to Scarecrow I added a Bwap NPC to my RPoL campaign. I hate him, most players hate him, one thinks he's cute, another appears to agree with him.

His favorite is quoting IMTU regulations that are centuries old and long unenforced then taking it on himself to execute them.

I once had great fun in the Sol Subsector with Bwaps being very VERY VERY AR... then they met one who offered to let something slide... and talk about a nervous crew... He was merely looking for his graft on a LL9 bribery legal world.
