Casual Encounter?

So I'm watching Firefly today and I was wondering: is Saffron the Casual Encounter 'Shawna' from The Traveller Book?

I just read the section you cite, and this really does not sound like Saffron.
Shawna, although a criminal, is not completely without
principles. She prefers to rob individuals or organizations
known for their shady dealings, stringently avoids murder
in her schemes, never rips off a close associate, and never
leaves her lesser confederates in a situation where they will
be in grave danger.

Although it is my long held belief that Firtefly is based on Traveller. I formed that belief the very first time I saw a TV comercial for the show. I said to myself, "Self, that looks like traveller." Of course I have no independant confirmation that Joss based Firefly on traveller, but if he didint that is one hell of a coincidence.

Ok, I see your point. Definitely not her. Working from a flatering memory.

I thought Joss Whedon did an interview where he said he based Firefly on a Science Fiction RPG? And we all know which one is the best... :)

EDIT: That would be a FALTering memory. I guess my dyslexia is showing today, too.

I can't find the link anymore, but at one point Joss admitted that firefly was based upon a campaign he played in of "a well-known science fiction RPG."

That really reduces to four candidates for the timeframe (1980's) he was talking about:
Star Frontiers
Traveller
Space Opera
Spacemaster

Of these, Star Frontiers and Traveller have significant slug-throwers... but only traveller has six-guns and tramp freighters.

well, that line earlyon in the first ep (from the DVDs) "hold on travelers"

and I don't believe they used that term again in the series, and it was big on terms.
