OK silly question time.
Rolling up a character. I start him off as a Marine. After three fairly successful terms, (Gets a commission and a promotion, so is now a Captain.) fails to reenlist. Musters out of the Marines. Not quite ready to start adventuring, decides to become a Mercenary. Meets the prerequisites and finds employment. Obviously can't take any more levels as a Marine, but does the character start over as a Private, or does the commission/rank carry over? Or, as in LBB4, start off as an NCO (Junior Officers have to be a minimum of an NCO, Field Grade Officers, minimum Junior Officer, General Officers, minimum Field Grade Officers.)?
It seems silly to go all the way back to Private, but it doesn't seem logical that the rank would be carried over either. It allows for extraenous XP to be awarded as well. (Get XP for getting commissioned twice for example.)
