character generation procedure

Hi,
I'm new here.

I was just rolling up some characters. I used the core rulebook, but now I want to have a go with the more detailed style laid out in the extra books.

Specifically, the High Guard. My guy goes to flight college and gets the basic service skills set there. Then his first term has to be as a crewman --- does he get the full service skill set there too? Or is it just the one skill role for the four years?

thanks.:)

That question is specific to MGT High Guard, as no other career book did it the same way.

The default is that you get only your first career's full Basic Training list (all at zero). For later careers you pick one skill and get that at zero.

So the question is two-fold: Is College a "career", and are the MOS changes required by this particular book "career changes"?

I would say "no" to the first part, but since I don't use the High Guard character generation mess, the question is not one I have to live with.

As I read it, if you character enters the Naval College, his basic training are all the skills in the Service table for the chosen specialty at 0 plus the skills achieved this term (one per term and one per propotion) rolled at the specialty tables.

On second turn, as it must be spent at the Crew section, he should gain one Crew section at 0, the skill for being an O1 at Crew (melee(blade): 1) plus any skill gained this term.

As I understand it, each time you change specialty in the Navy you gain a Service Table skill at 0 as basic training for this specialty. This, of course, excepts the chosen specialty when you revert to it after you term at Crew if College graduate (after all, you already have them at 0 or higher).

By reviewing the CharGen example given in MgT LBB2: HG, we find that when (at the begining of his second term) Harek changes to Pilot branch, he picks a service skill (Gunnery in this case) at level 0 as his basic training, so confirming my views.

We also see he doesn't get the skill for being an O2 in the pilot branch (Tactics:Naval, in this case), so it seems I was wrong in this point. I see it a little incoherent, as the lowest ranks seen in the Pilot branch are E2/O2, so, if you don't get the skill for rank when you join it, you should be promoted from a rank not even shown in the tables...
