Civilian Awards or Kudos

Does anyone use civilian awards in their game? What I mean is: do you have patches or things like that to denote something special a civilian has done in space. In Andre Norton's Star Ranger, they have an award called the Far Roving Star - it's military, but I thought a civilian award could do something like that, too. Maybe for merchants or such. RVers have stickers they can put on their RV to show where they've gone. But I was thinking more of some kind of patch they could put on a flight jacket. I don't know - just brainstorming here.

Any ideas?

You might get a dumbass stick that sounds like it's raining when you tip it over. Or worse yet, a wife who knocks you out and then tries to steal your ship.

The idea of a civilian medal for gallantry ... sounds like an idea whose time has come.

That, but I'm also thinking like Guinness Book of Galactic Records or even just a patch that says you did the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs. Background color mostly.

From my wife's resume as a fire fighter:

Excellence in Public Service
Award for Service
Commendation
Meritorious Public Service

Just tack on city/world names and voila, you have some awards and commendations.

(she just asked me to put them into a spreadsheet so she could keep up with them better and electronically [versus her notebook], and I remembered this post)

Police and Firemen also get awards like Medal of Valor (Anchorage just gave out two Medals of Valor) and Medal of Honor.

The Imperium awards knighthoods to civilians who catch the attention of the nobility. And that would seem to be the extent of the kudos they extend towards the proletariat: that, and the raising of their Social Standing to 10.

In your universe maybe.

In mine there are civilian awards similar to those in the links I gave... so that PCs in the various "other" careers can also boast some "chest salad".

Or perhaps the universe described by the published material. Though it's also possible (even probable) that the Imperium has civilian awards that just hasn't been mentioned anywhere. But as far as anyone can prove from current canon, there isn't any in the OTU.

JTAS 22 gives us membership in the Imperial Science Union as a civilian benefit - that might include a special pin or the like.
