Mongoose 2300AD: 'Colonial Times' out now.

Wow.
I mean, just wow.

I am not really a fan of 2300.
I have nothing against it, I just never had much exposure so I never felt any strong attraction.

I am a fan of fanzines because I like finding people being creative.
As a general rule, I do like the lower rungs of Traveller space TLs and I am a fan of harder science fiction,
so I thought that I would just check this out.

I have to give you a standing ovation for creativity ... especially the advertisements.
Absolutely amazing artwork in there.

One possible issue, were any of the advertisements for legitimate books?
Most were clearly not real advertisements, but you had a fair amount of discussion with real authors about real books.
That made me wonder if any of the advertisements were for real books.
If they were, then they probably got lost among the mock ads.

'On Deck' and 'Contraband' were my personal favorite parts.
Good luck.

... and to any 2300 fans, I recommend reading it for yourself with a big "thumbs up".

Thanks! :)

you have a point.. The 'FIRE WITH FIRE by chuck Gannon' ad is for an actual book, available from bookshops and Amazon.. it never occurred to me that it may get lost in the faux-ads.

If you read Chuck's interview elsewhere in the issue it will become quite clear (his book is taking critics and high sci-fi fans by storm) but it's something I'll consider for the next issue.
I'm really grateful to you.

'Colonial Times' has grown out of the ashes of what was supposed to be the re-birth of 'Challenge Magazine'. Sadly, I couldn't garner enough interest to make the magazine viable. I was doing all of the work myself and any submissions I did get were 90% gearhead stuff.

Still, OTU/TW2K/DC's loss is 2300AD's gain!

Not yet read in depth, but it looks great.

Gannon's column at the end was pretty good. Really narrowed down some concepts behind why 2300 is a different and special kind of setting. Helped me because I'm working on a similar genre game and can't quite figure out why it's so interesting to me despite all the problems I keep running into with it.

As an aside, he sold me on his book!

200!

200 downloads for Issue #2! Oddly, this makes it more popular than issue #1.

My eternal thanks to all those who have downloaded and also submitted. Colonial Times can't exist without your help!

You can now find the fanzine on its own blogpage where I'll store all the issues for download.
