CT CD PDF sizes?

Hi all.
I've got the CT CD on it's way - very excited to rediscover this RPG from my younger years :D
My question is this: what is the general layout of the PDFs? What I mean is, are they landscape, like the reprints? Portrait? A4/8" x 11"?
It's just that I'd like to print up some of the books for my use and would like to plan ahead a little.

Many thanks! :)

They're scans of the original books and vary in size from half of a US Quarto page (slightly taller, but slightly less wide, than A5) to full US Quarto size pages (slightly shorter, but slightly wider, than A4).

They will all fit onto a standard A4 using the "Fit to printable area" option in the print dialogue box of Adobe Reader 9.

The numbered books, supplements, special supplements, adventures, and double-adventures are all 5.5" x 8.5"; two of them will fit side-by-side on a US letter page in landscape orientation.

The Alien Modules and Modules are 8.5" x 11"; US Letter, portrait.

I'm not sure what the rest are; the games were all shipped in US Letter boxes, but often had smaller components or folded large maps.

Acrobat or Acrobat Reader can tell you what size the PDF file THINKS it is.

For some reason when I've made print-outs of the pdf's, the page only fills slightly more than the upper left quarter of the page, no matter what size selection I choose. Perhaps it's just my printer, but I've never been able to get it to fill the whole page.

I recently purchased the 3 "Environment" books by Gamelords and the same thing happens. Weird! :oo:

If by 'selection' you're just referring to paper size, that's not all you want to do. I have Acrobat Pro, so I can't speak to the specifics of any other PDF reader, but in Acrobat Pro, the print dialogue box has a section called "Page Handling", and there's a dropdown in that section called "Page Scaling". You want to set that to "Fit to printable area", then print.

I suspect my printing woes are the result, not of Adobe Acrobat Reader, but the original scans of the PDF which were at smaller resolution. It's not the end of the Imperium, just a minor cosmetic quibble.

Not necessarily; look into what I suggested - I'm fairly sure that the same capability is in Reader. The text is selectable, which tells me that it's really text, not an image scan, and thus scaling should work just fine.

You might end up with some graininess issues for actual graphic content, for exactly the reason you give - but that should not stop you or your PDF reader program from being able to expand the 5.5x8.5 pages to 8.5x11.

Or you could just do what I suggested ;)

My printer gives me a booklet printing option (HP Deckjet F4100 series) when I go to print. There is a drop down box listed as scaling options. Don't know if this comes from the printer software of somewhere else.

Reader on Mac has the scaling options, including one particularly nice for LBB's:

Booklet Printing. Which prints it 2 5.5x8.5 pages per 8.5x11 sheet-side. If your printer does duplexing, instant book. If not, well, run the fronts, then the backs, then fold and staple.

Interesting...
Thanks all for your comments. I am going to try to print some of the books A5 (148 x 210mm) to hole punch and place in sexy little A5 folders :D
ShapeShifter - I hope you get your printing woes sorted.
