D&D Psionics in Traveller

I have the Dungeons and Dragons Psionics Handbook. What would happen if I substituted this version of Psionics for the Traveller version? How would it effect the nature of the game?

The D&D Psionics are geared more towards a high powered universe where dealing with mages and clerics is the norm. In the Traveller universe I think you will find that they begin to overpower the other classes unless you find a way to delay the psionic power developement. I also use the rules, but I force any player who wants psionics (currently only one) to multiclass and maintain the psi class at the same level or lower than the other class.

Certain Psi powers involve other planes of existance. Not sure if we should have those. Also teleport and other such long range powers should be limited in distance. I think some powers ought to be considered though on a case by case basis. Another idea that comes out of Isaac Asimov's Foundation Books is the idea of a Psionic network of Hive Mind. In the Books Foundation's Edge and Foundation and Earth there was a planet called Gaia that was inhabited by psionic humans who all shared one mind psionically. Could that be used in Traveller campaign. Would such a planet be considered a red zone?

Since there are already worlds with significant portions of the population active psionics, but no where near all the population being psionic, and those planets are red zones, then I would say, yes, a planet where the entire population is psionic and shares one mind psionically would be a red zone. Unless that planet had something very valuable and very rare to trade with others.

I agree with Spyder and Tom, the DnD psionics would be way too powerful for any PC. You could choose it for a NPC who is a reaccurrent villian or carefully go through the system and eleminate those powers ripe for abuse. As it stands, a mid to high level psionist based on the DnD system would pose the greatest threat to the Empire I could immagine. That, or some of this board's posters role-playing their characters with a Monty-Haul GM. ;) Now THAT would scare the robes off of the Emperor!!
