D20 / T20 Psions

Hello,

I am waiting for my T20 in the mail currently so I don't have the answer to my question. I noted in my Traveller Gurps books that the Solomani do use Psions.

Do people use the 3.5 D20 Psionic Handbook? Are all abilities normally/could be availble for play? Any normal restrictions?

The only reason why I ask is that in the Gurps versions I do get the impression that only certain disciplines are encouraged.

Thanks for any help!

Evening,

If you have a high-speed connection you can do a global search of the site for "psionics" to find some old discussions and I think at least one alternate system.

Psionics in The Traveller's Handbook is probably much like that in GT and earlier Traveller. Very limited in both scope and power. That doesn't mean it can't be more developed in your own game, just that you'll have to do it yourself or borrow from others who already have.

There will also be more development coming in the Player's Guidebook (I think).

Psionics is certainly very limited.

In the THB psionics is seperate from classes, and sucks up all spare skill points and feats that any character may have. It is a good balance (IMHO).

Psionics does give you an edge, but it is an edge at the sacrifice of what would be a different edge.

I wouldn't advise bringing the Psionics Handbook or Expanded Psionics Handbook into T20. They're aimed at fantasy games with magic, where Fireball and Raise Dead are everyday staples.

T20 psionics, and Traveller psionics in general, are lower powered than that. I don't think they'd mix at all well.

It does not and I would not use the XPH.

That said, I do intend on using Green Ronin's Psychic's Handbook.

Just to throw out my support of the idea, I too will be using a modified version of Green Ronin's Psychic's Handbook in my future T20 campaigns to cover psionics.

So, what's so great about the Psychic's Handbook that makes it good for T20? (I never even heard of it before, myself...)

Check out the reviews of the product on ENWorld and other D20 news sites. I think that will answer your question.

In short, it works, and works well, at capturing in a D20 System mechanic the power level and feel of psionics from both CT and MT.

Uggg, can't find the @&%$&*% Psychic Handbook at my local stores. Any ideas for cheap and reliable online shippers?

Amazon.com seems to have it cheap and if you add in enough goodies to make a $25USD (no idea on non-US orders) order you get free if slower shipping. Sometimes Half.com has a great deal on rpg books and I've used abebooks.com before with good results, though the latter mainly for non-rpg books. Rpgshop.com is the flipside to Rpgnow.com though I've not ordered from it but have had good response from Rpgnow.com. Some folk have used Nobleknight.com before.

As always YMMV & HTH,
Casey

The psychic's handbook is a skill and feat system, somewhat like T20 and SW d20's force skills.

However, IMO it's a bit more expansive and detailed than T20's system and I daresay a bit more balanced (it always irked me that teleportation is so cheap in terms of feats that allegedly easier feats.)

Of course, I think that using it is a definite kick in the space opera direction.

I've always had great success with www.d20books.com - they've always gone the extra mile to help out their customers. (If you do decide to use them, please mention that Flynn sent you. The owner really only advertises by word of mouth, and appreciates knowing where you found out about his services.)

Good luck,
Flynn

I have a brand new DND psionic handbook for 3rd ed I got and never used..still has that 'new book' smell.

I was gonna put it on ebay...

The d20 version of Trinity is out soon isn't it?
That should have some stuff in it that can be borrowed to add to T20's psionic rules.

If the Trinity book is anything ike the Adventure! book, then there would in all probability be a lot of problems in getting the rules to mesh properly with T20, but the psi system in Adventure! (which is supposed to be the same as in Trinity) is okay... magic spell-like "knacks" with power levels about like D&D magic spells. If that is what you want for psi, have fun.

I'd rather revise the Star Wars feats and skills system for the Force. A shame that the license prevents that from being part of the SRD.

I liked Star Wars skills and feats, too, but I always thought there should be another attribute for the Force, like Traveller does with Psi. If you treat the T20 Psi score like other attributes and use a skills and feats system, the attribute modifier would add to your skill ranks, just like other attribute modifiers add to normal skill ranks. I think there's a lot of people interested in this - I wonder if we should open up a separate discussion group for this. Any one interested in a discussion group for T20 Psi skills and feats?

Later,
