I'm building a model of a free trader, or at least trying to, and would like to eventually "texture" it with images to make it look as real as possible.

Anyway, along these lines I was thinking of putting those black and yellow danger stripes on some sections. I want the imagery to be plausible as well as good looking, understand?

Anyway, I was thinking of where you'd put these danger stripes on a free trader's hull. It occurs me me even though I don't recall seeing it that those side cargodoors/ramps on the outer sides behind the fuel intakes would be a good place to put them since those things can lower to the ground, so you might oput danger strips there as a way of warning people who don't know about FTs not to stand near or under them.

I decided against the intake rims as those probably don't suck air in but collect atmosphere while the ship is moving.

Maybe around the thrusters and the attitude control thrusters?

I may do the airlock doors in bright green since green is the most visible color to the human eye, and likely more others since the eye evolved in water and thus adapted to the best color for seeing underwater.

Red "Keep Back" triangles next to or on doors that might pop open suddenly, with "EXPLOSIVE" added to the ones that surround explosive bolt releases..

"Rescue" arrows to latches.

something like these things on the side of a plane:

Planes also have lots of "Do Not Step" stencils that include walkways for the ground crews that come in stripes, checks, whatever....

L-Hyd intake ports need outlines...oh, and don't forget the "KEEP BACK" red checkerboard surround for the waste tank dump nozzle port!!!!!

Say, what's that pic from? Hope some damn pain in the ass feminuts don't throw a tantrum until things like that are banned.

That is the one of the last Victor tankers from the RAF. She's famous. Last served in the Gulf. The squadron theme all had these pin-ups holding a spear in some pose or another. This Victor is the last one standing.

Here's a walkaround...I borrowed the nose art shots and some angles to design the Lusty Lindsey 2 ...a privateer commerce raider piloted by one of my NPC's. The nose and inner wing config made it look perfect for a quick handout to the players. From some angles she really looks like a spaceship. I used the Vulcan bomber for the pattern for my 400 ton patrol corvette.

And its a good example of all the stencils that get put all over planes that you never really notice till you're standing right next to one. Especially the low-viz.

And little things like ejection triangles, rescue arrows, and all that stuff have a universal pattern to them so they would be easy to recognize no matter what the language is. So, if you are looking to do the same for a Free Trader model you ought to think up some universal markings. Aslan ones would look the same (maybe the colors slightly off to account for vision), but the warning lettering would just be in Aslan, unless you decide there is some universal language requirement for flying in Imperial space. Like English is for flying around the world.
