Decompression Calculator

Decompression Calculator Page

For a volume in kiloliters or m^3, and a hole diameter in cm, calculates the decompression results and the points at which hypoxia and then critical hypoxia set in.

I plan to enhance it in the following ways:
- To allow specification of hole area, for non circular holes
- To explain some ideas on game effects of hypoxia and critical hypoxia (I define critical as "you have 9-12 seconds of consciousness left"!)
- Maybe to let you specify different external pressures.

Here is another key link
Gregory Landis' page on explosive decompression and vacuum exposure

Thanks Kaladorn, the link and calculator are both excellent and strangely enough of timely relevance

I plan an enhanced version, however it and some other things are 'on the burner' due to a family serious car accident. With Mom in the ICU, this game stuff goes on the burner. I'll get back to it when I have time and post updates then.

You got to worry for your character, you find a calculator on the table pick it up. It looks innocent enough, press a button, then your ears pop, you gasp for air, then you fall down unconsious as the air bursts from your lungs.

Very funny, Tom. That reminds me of some sort of AD&D magic item.

As for the other posts: Thanks for the sentiments guys. I guess okay is a relative thing - she'll probably never be quite the same with her leg a jigsaw puzzle of bits and having the typical elder lady osteoporosis to boot, and the broken collarbone and C2 will make for a tough recovery. But the opthalmologist says her vision will recover (at least roughly to prior levels - whew!) and the othropoedic surgeon is 'cautiously optimistic' for her recovery. It'll be a long road.... but we seem to be making the first steps. I just wish I didn't forsee a knife-fight with the insurance company on the horizon... (No Fault insurance doesn't really impress me as a replacement for the Tort system....)

Anyway, wishes gratefully accepted. Take care of yourselves. If this has taught me anything, you can't say good things to the people you care about too many times and it is never too early. Life is ephemeral, special, unique, and to be treasured. and so are good friends and good people and I've found out how many of those I know, including the folks on this and a few other web boards I'm on.

Faith manages.

Yeah good one Tom, the whole Dragon Mag. article of similar mis-Spell-ings is what hit me. I remember best "The Robe of Blending". The finder puts it on and is instantly diced and sliced (no save since all the dicing is done by the robe

)

Of course such item definitions have no place in Traveller

And of course my own thanks for this info kaladorn, now if I could just get it for Palm OS (keep meaning to do my own Palm programming some day, add this to the list I guess).

I've got a book on Palm programming on my shelf, if that counts. ;)

I haven't had a chance to open out that bit of skill either. The tools look to have improved a lot from the early days.

I recall the 'Spells for Everyman' such as 'Summon Monster 0.5' involving setting up a picnic lunch - summoned monster would be ants. Or 'Enrage 0.5' (I think that was it) where it involved an obscene gesture with the middle digit towards the foe. All quite tongue-in-cheek, and lord knows no one would want that in their Traveller world for fear of it appearing to be Red Dwarf....
