desperate for DGP!

How desperate?

Things turn up on Ebay - some fairly regularly, some rather infrequently.

Better have very deep pockets though - the rare stuff can go for obscene amounts of money and you'll have to bid high to avoid getting scooped at the last minute. That particular game is not for everyone, but with patience, luck and a good budget you should be able to get what you want... eventually.

Some of the high-end online dealers of used RPG's have the more common stuff in stock and get some of the rarer items in from time to time - but these guys know their market and top shelf items are going to command top shelf prices.

If you're looking for a particular title I'd recommend doing a google for it and seeing what you turn up.

I don't know how often the DGP stuff shows up on the dealers' tables at conventions... but hitting the dealer room at a RPG con is probably not a bad idea either.

So it comes down to 'how desperate are you?' If you're willing to throw some money around, do some intensive internet searching and excercise some patience you can probably get what you want.

On the other hand, if you're cash strapped, get pissed off easily at getting 'scooped' and just don't have the google-fu -- you'll probably need a lot of luck.

Gripping hand is: there's a very limited supply (THANK YOU - 'he who must not be named' - jerk) and a *lot* of demand. The laws taught in Economics 101 apply.

Last time I saw Solomani and Aslan, by far one of the most-held-on-to items in the DGP catalogue, it was on eBay for $48 US and had three days to go... There are generally two books folks REALLY, REALLY want: Vilani and Vargr and Solomani and Aslan. However, the print run on the latter was maybe half the run of the former ('bout 5000 copies all told). This makes for a highly inflated market for the material. The only thing I've seen go higher on auction is lots of material and Travller's Digest 10: Capital.

So, all I can say to your query is all any of us can say to the general DGP logjam...

It's a long-standing complaint with no solution readily at hand. Mr. Miller says he's willing to talk about it, Mr. Sanger says his position is clear. Currently, the DGP stuff is slowly being "written out", and that saddens me. Lotsa good thought, great art and careful craft went into it.

The problem is, people have gone to Mr. Sanger. Several times over the past many years. From the notes people have posted about their efforts:

1. Mr. Sanger has the disturing tendency to disappear randomly, for no apparent reason.

2. When asked to name a price for the DGP rights, the price named has been obscenely outside of realistic estimate of it's worth (6 figures has been mentioned).

Mr. Sanger has no real interest in the DGP materials, except in it's ability to make him enough money to fund his latest get-rich-quick scheme. So those of us who have spent years being scooped on E-bay are just as glad it's being written over, usually by the same authors.

As your in the UK, have you tried getting in touch with BITS? (www.bits.org.uk)

They used to (and probably still do) have a small selection of second hand traveller stuff to sell to members. I got my copy of SOM from them a few years back. There prices are also quite reasonable (cheaper than ebay).

It's interesting, however, that he allowed DGP's 2300AD work (a few articles from TTD) to be posted on Pentapod's world. For free.

Perhaps then, you can ask Kevin to give you Mr. Sangers contact information. If you can negotiate a reasonsble deal, I'm sure the money for both the rights and publishing can be found.
 
Is it me, or does Mr. Sanger seem to think you're gonna make Big Money in the gaming industry? If so, he needs to learn the difference between D&D and slot machines. Even Hasbro isn't making a pile of money on purchase of WOTC, for crying out loud. :rolleyes:

As to alot of DGP stuff being rewritten or re-released by the authors, I had noticed that, but I confess to missing the work of the Fugates, Lester Smith, Rob Thomas, Rob Caswell (!), and the rest of that staff. I have alot of respect for them and real fondness for their work. Truth be told, if I ever happen to be at a con somewhere and encounter one of those guys, I'd admire to buy 'em a couple of whatever they're drinking just to listen to the stories. :cool:

And for some reason, I'm not the only one of us who'd do so....

Dunno - ebay can be a real crapshoot. I've gotten some pretty decent stuff at prices well under what I've been quoted by some private individuals and FAR less than some game stores that specialise in oop.... some of the package deals can go at a good price if you need most of the stufff in them. On the other hand JTAS#1 just went for ~$75.00 so go figure ;)

I sent you a note - definitely interested in some of your items.

Also I'm going to have some dupes of some stuff Real Soon Now(tm) and will post them here before I offer them to Swordy, on ebay or to a game store. We fans gotta support each other.

I'm needing Travellers Digests 9, 10 and 13 to complete my set, also Megatraveller Journal number 1 and possibly 4.
 
What's a fair price? 1/2 retail? full retail? 10 cents? (I doubt this
) 100 dollars each? (I'd love this but doubt this, also :D )

They're all in good condition, read once and put in my big ole box of Traveller stuff.

I'll sell my TNE stuff, also, but I should start another thread for those.
