I did enjoy the flick, because that is what it was, a flick. If you want to get into the story line, then read all of the books...
...and then go on at length to defend StarWars ep2? Seems to me you're contradicting yourself, but I can see it since one was literature before it was ever thought to be a movie, while the other was (in all probability in Lucas' mind) a movie before it was ever thought to be literature. As a comparison, think what was done to the Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the rings. They took the best story of the 20-th century and butchered it...
I also suspect you may be one of those (no offense intended) who not only read Tolkien but also analysed it seeking all the hidden meanings and allegory, but maybe you're not as old as me and managed to miss that little bit of recent history (the late 60's early 70's). Me, I only read it as pure escapist fantasy, loved it thoroughly, and quite enjoyed the movie in the same spirit.
I can't comment on SW ep2, being so disillusioned with the whole "3 of 9" thing since shortly after ep5, that I have yet to see it and likely won't given the comments (even the glowing ones) here and elsewhere.
