Donosev model (WIP)

Starting to look like a Donosev, though those sensor booms need way more twiddly bits. Cutter and module also need looking at.

Based primarily on the pictures and plans provided by Digest Publications in Grand Survey.

Well, it is the "ugliest ship in charted space."

(I think that is from WBH, IIRC)

But the model looks good!

I disagree. I've always liked the Donosev ever since I've seen it in the WBH. It looks functional, realistic...something that would show up as a vessel in an Alien movie (Remember the Sulaco and the Nostromo?)

Because of this, the Donsosev is one of my favorites.

Bad writing on my part - I actually like the ship itself (more functionally rather than aesthetically, although I would not call it "ugly").

It was more of Andrew saying it was ugly, then me finding an example in published Traveller.

Cut the sensor booms off the thing, and it looks like a house. An "A" Frame, with the garage out front. Inverted chimney to the right. The square in the side of the "A" Frame is a large roof window over the breakfast table.

It's not canon but I've sometimes wondered what they'd look like as skeletal booms with bits of gear inside and at the end. Or with the boom coverings folded out into other larger arrays. Just a thought, if you're looking for a little something new in it.

Are you building that or is that a render? If it's a render, what program are you using?

If you have The Flaming Eye by DGP, it's got a few good pics of the Donosev that might help.

Looks good!

Thunderbolt, that's a bad-assed site you have there. Man, you can really design a ground vehicle. Those are your true strength.

Great lookin' stuff.

I agree. Great art on your site.

I would liuke to get a copy of your 3d model if it coulb be used in Poser or DAZ Studio.

Have you thought about doing a scout walkabout suit?

I will be looking to ensure it works in Poser 6, although I have found some dodgy facet issues when importing into Poser. I'll have to solve them eventually because they are coming up in UV Mapper as well :-(

Clothing is pretty soul destroying work, and the results for me have always been less than ideal. Doing vehicles is much more forgiving !!

Stunning website. Perhaps you can fix the original Donosev. There seems to be serious need for a descriptive purpose and a few modifications with this ship...

Under "Utilities," try Triangulate N-Gons. BTW when you save it out from Hex, also remember to save it without Normals.

Note that triangulating N-Gons does destroy UV Mapping and may cause you to reset up your material zones. (When I work in Hex, I set material zones and UV map after I am finished with the model.)

I solved the problem eventually using UV Mapper Pro. I used one of its facet repair features and all was well.

Although it didn't sort this problem out, that triangulate feature helped me out last year with some issues in Vue with garbled textures.
