DS 2 C. Ammunition Carrier Crew

Afternoon all,

Probably a silly question that finally percolated into thought from an earlier discussion, but here goes anyway.

Per DS 2 C. Ammunition Carrier requires a driver plus half of a guns normal crew for the bore size, rounded up.

Why is the driver a separate body instead of part of the half of a guns normal crew for the bore size?

Ummm ... because?

:oo:

Doesn't really make sense, does it. Who lets the driver relax with his coffee while the rest of the team is busy loading and unloading? If it were up to me, I'd have counted the driver among the loaders.

I'm all for drinking coffee while the other guys are doing the work. Of course the downside is that someone is going to want the job and in a combat zone accidents happen;).

I'm also glad to find out I'm not the only one who wonders about the requirement. Anyway thanks for the feedback as usual.

I would assume the driver is also a loader. I have assumed the same for other support elements i.e. cooks, medics, engineers etc. The driver of a field kitchen also doubles as a cook etc.

Apparently, I'm reading and understanding the DS 2 C Ammunition Carriers Book 3 page 13 rule differently. My copy of Striker Book 3 DS 2 C states

This vehicle must carry, in addition to a driver, a number of loaders equal to half the listed normal crew for that bore size, rounded up.

Note that the bold type is my emphasis.

To me "in addition to" means that a driver is assigned before calculating the number of loaders.

At minimum my guess is that an ammo carrier also requires one loader making the minimum crew 2.

Off course I've been known to interpret rules differently from others and this just might be another time I'm way out in left field. :D
