escape pods

Another more fully analogous comparison is submarines. There are no pods on subs. They either suffer implosion or await on the bottom for remote rescue. Remote in both likelihood of success and in mode of operation.
Actually Royal Navy submarines have an escape system which can beused at depths of up to 600 feet.
Crew members can be "fired" up to the surface after putting on a special hood. The ascent is so fast (mere seconds apparently) they do not suffer from the "bends".

I've never actually seen this escape mechanism myself but it does exist.

Feeling touchy, flykiller?</font>[/QUOTE]yeah, and it's stupid. I'm too old to be acting that way. it just bugs me that some lessons are learned only by direct personal bloody experience. "I'm smart, I've thought of everything and I have all the angles covered! nothing is going to happen that I haven't thought of!" armchairs ....

ah, only a game and all that. if the referee and players are happy after the game, that's enough.
