Exalted Traveller!

So, I've been reading Exalted (White Wolf's high powered animesque fantasy game) lately - and I started to wonder about Exalted Traveller.

Things like

[Player 1] "My Exalted Zhodani Intendant activates his 'Death of One Thousand Punches' Charm and teleports all around you, hitting you from every direction at the same time. You die. I'll roll Dexterity + Martial Arts."

Sure, roll it.

[Player 2] "Well my Exalted Imperial Marine actives her 'Praise the Emperor and Dread Nought' Charm, making him immune to all your damage. She cries out 'Zhodani scum, you can not harm me for the Emperor Strephon himself is on my side!' I'll roll Stamina + Resistance, and I still have a Soak bonus from my Battledress. I should also get a one die stunt bonus for calling out to the Emperor."

Sure, roll it.

[Player 3] "Can't we all get just get along? My Vargr Diplomat activates his 'My Outfits So Bright, You Gotta Wear Shades' charm. Neither of you can take any hostile action next round because you're all too stunned by my bling! (to GM) "By the way I'm stunting this one too."

"How?"

[Player 3] "Well as you know my Diplomat always wears a suit. Today his outfit features a plaid jacket in brick red, electric blue, and eggplant with paisley pants in purple. The pants have embroidery daffodils on them, the yellow petals are actual cloth of gold and the center of each flower is a giant rhinestone whose light reflects the sunshine off of my "

[GM, interrupting] "Sure. One die stunt bonus."

[Player 3, without pausing for breath] "But I haven't told you yet about the toeless lime green half boots cut to show my rear claws, what color polish is on each claw and, most importantly, how I'm going to use my fusion powered polka-dotted prehensile cloak to weave pseudo hypnotic patterns in the air as I speak or the activation patterns for fractal Mandelbrot designs LED designs imbedded in his shirt. That counts as 'Interacting with the environment' enough to be a two die stunt, doesn't it?"

[Players 1, 2, and 4 simultaneously ] "GM, please give her the bonus if she promises never to describe what the Vargr is wearing in such detail ever again!"

GM "OK, two two die stunt, Manipulation and Presence. Roll it."

[Player 3] "Do I get a bonus from the Ancient subsonic field generator I'm wearing?"

"No, that bonus only applies if your targets are Dronye, remember."

[Player 4] "You know, we never did find out why there was an anti Droyne weapon in that Ancient site anyway."

/Evil smile/

Other than, perhaps, the bit where the Imperial Marine called out to th Emperor it doesn't feel at all WH40Kish to me and given that calling on their leaders spirit is a very old trope that probably goes back before Alexander the Great and is seen in all sorts of societies, especially those with strong governments I can't see why an Imperial Marine might not call out for Strephon's aid to resist a Zhodani.

Besides, canonically we _know_ that 'Wishing makes it so' in Traveller. It's called psionics.
Calling out to the Emperor _should_ work, if you've got the right powers anyway.... If you really wanted to explain away Exalted Traveller than we just say that 'Essence' = 'Psionic Points Pool'. Functionally they do the same thing, it's just that in Exalted you can do more.

Both games are the story or recovery from a previous golden age of vast powers (the Ancients/the First Age). Both have a large, but flat universe with the regular guys in the middle (the Imperium/The Blessed Isle) and weird stuff around the edges. Both have fantastic locations, epic visuals, and extensive canonical background. Bothe feature supplements telling you more about new types of characters (Alien Modules/alternate Exalted splat books).

They're really the same thing, save for the PC's default power level. Exalted is Traveller in a fantasy setting and turned up to 11.

That hurt my brain...

:oo:

Hurt?

Son, no pain, no gain, here in GMland. Players can be super-cheesey.

I have had conversations very much just like that as a GM. /evil-grin/ Ask me a about the sorta famous 1200 point All-Books GURPS Campaign I ran, yep, very much like that...it all started with a BIG WHITE FLASH! Been thinking trying again, to keep the skills up and such. Well off to the rack.

edit: Oh and

ALL books? That sounds like a fun campaign. Tell me more! :)

Wow, I never though Exalted powers worked in real life. If you'd actually seen the outfit, would you have lost your next action?

I think I lost my next action anyway just reading it. Stun damage.

Spinward Scout.

About something like the above only it involved a butt load more so.

Dragons, the Ultra-rich but there are always folks richer dude, Being of Pure Thought who looked like a NPC's perfect body and this one other sorta used to be famous guy who did some TV but we don't want to get sued by as a head when he manifested, ummm, it went like that..."Battle to Escape Planet Earth!" was the title, and I meant it. /evil-grin/

The big white flash was the aforementioned rich dude being assassinated before the game starts, he wakes up in the clone memory restoration facility, then he decides to rob a Dragon and chaos and MiBbery ensued.

That enough or or is there more needed? :D
