Experience in Traveller

I don't mind giving experience in games. However, I believe that the experience points should come from the enjoyment of the game, *not* the actions of the characters.

I'm planning on giving a straight 2 points a game session, with an extra point if the player helped other people have fun also, and another point for beating me in punning (however, if the player initiated it and lost, they lose a point).

The punning helps *me* enjoy the game. :)

So Dangerous Thing, how do you use those experience points once they're given?

Looking at the thread, there is one aspect of gaining experience points & levels that has been ignored - they make you harder to kill. Maybe that is a better way to incorporate them into Traveller, by adding them to the damage a character can take, but in a use them and lose them fashion. Once you elect to use 5 of your experience points to survive that wound they're gone, but your character lives to fight another round.
