Farscape

Turns out that the Sebaceans were actually Humans taken from Earth thousands of years ago and Uplifted to be galactic police. From them came a few sub-branches.

The race who did this wasn't called the Ancients, but there was another race called the Ancients who developed super-high level technology and then fizzled away.

Starburst=Jump Drive

Luxans=Aslan

Psionic Abiliities are similar in both settings.

Peacekeepers remind me of the Imperium.

It's not total, but it is there.

Was I the only person who thought that Rockne O'Bannon was directly inspired by Traveller?

The problem in looking for Traveller in another Intellectual Property is that Traveller is such a mishmash of all Science Fiction tropes from the beginning of the genre until the 1970s (and Mongoose has extended that to the present day). Therefore, one is no longer looking at Traveller but say Asimov's Empire** (in the case of SW RPG) or Tubb's journeyman (in the case of the NuBSG). Traveller is nice because it brought all these things together...so, yes, maybe someone (scriptwriter or director) might have picked up Traveller but never actually delved into it. They just picked off the cool elements that Traveller had already stolen from other older IPs.

**The Extended Universe that exists in Star Wars is certainly Lucas inspired but it has moved beyond Lucas' vision.

Traveller is generic enough that correlations can be found with practically any SF show conceived since 1977, and maybe even a few before then.

I did not watch Farscape when it came out but thanks to Netflixs I am about finish watching it and I have to agree its a wonderful Travellerish show. While its sense of humor may go overboard sometimes its characters and big ship universe makes shows what good character development can do in a role playing game.
