feral humans

spank

SOC-12
I was watching TLC tonight and I saw a program on children raised by animals. I wondered about a traveller race of humans raised by aliens, I was really surprised how many characteristics of the animals the childern took on even walking like them. I wonder if it went on for many generations what kinds of traits could be selected in or out.

the is something similar in the series
janissaries by J.pournelle/l. niven....

they were kinda like watch dogs...

the names of thier masters was
shallnuksiss i think...

what would happen is they would
probably go docile...the shalnuksiss
saw this and would time to time raid
earth for a few "wild" humans..

another one is farnhams freehold story

that one is a little darker and not really aliens
but the earth in the future...basically
white people become cattle to darker people
but from time to time they raise a certain amount
to be pets "servants"....to this end they
would geld the males to "gentle" them...you
can imagine what happens then...

another good one is a TV series called
earth 2....a girl is raised a "terrian"
and she is one ODD cookie...

probably for the most part they would be
less "human" then we would be...subservient
probably too....

I don't nesicarily imagine that they would be subserviant, Just differtly mannered and cultured, more of a companion race than a slave race. A scenario I was kicking around was a disease that either killed off or fried the brains of all adults on a planet. Millions of childern are found by aliens who take pity on them and raise them.

then i would review earth 2 that would give you an
idea on how ODD they might be....if all the adults
died off they would lose alot of "human" history..

i think star trek(capt. kirk )had an episode
that had something like this...where a race
tried to create an "immmortality drug" but
it ends up killing everyone over 18...they
werent rasied by aliens but they were
bonkers...so it might give you some more
ideas for your theme..

go down to the library and read those books
listed above, maybe the janiassaries one
would be more to your taste/theme...

i know there are 2 other books but i can't
remember thier names that deal in a similar
manner with humans...if i remember i'll be
sure to post...

Or Charlie X?

Miri was the ST:TOS episode with the brats without any parents (due to the bio agent), where the oldest girl falls for Kirk.

Charlie X doesn't work (for feral kids, anyway), as he was raised by another intelligence.

You could always try reading Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange land. It's old and dated being about a human raised by martians and returned to earth, and how he integrates with his human kindred. Good book though...

Robert Heinliens best book by Far is 'Time Enough for Love' - Brilliant

I once read a short story about a space liner that crashed on low gravity planet.

The passengers and crew were captured and held by flying aliens for years, and any children that were born were taken and raised by the aliens.

When the survivors were found and rescued by human forces the children refused to leave because they identified with the aliens more than with humanity.

I always assume when the term "feral" is used, that some form of a "domesticated" creature exists.

First, in most of the examples cited, it would appear that the aliens are "domesticating" some of the humans, while the "feral" ones are those humans that wish to leave.

Second, are humans "domesticated"?

Romans had toilet facilities and drains. Minoans, too, I believe.

Eighteenth century Europe seems somewhat hit and miss.

So, I think it's a very much cultural question. And sanitation.

My cats are very good about using their litter boxes. Are cats domesticated?

The "Tschai: Planet Of Adventure" series by Jack Vance has very good examples of humans domesticated by a variety of alien races.

Also, I once ran a human character who was native to a vargr world, no stat modifiers but Charisma instead of Social Standing and Vargr service tables. Further, I roleplayed her as a vargr, which was great when we were actually dealing with vargr, but could be a bit difficult when dealing with starport security in the Imperium.

I think that is as close to a "feral" human as I have ever played.
