FFE Update

In defense of the Post office.

Being that I am sorta oldish and stuff, I thought I would comment on the dogging of the USPS. They used to work fine, great in fact...then we let private industry take control of it. Now ick, sorta.

Ma Bell, oddly enough was also (so far the only) good US monopoly. Then again, we messed with it and now it is broke. (And for some silly reason the USG thought it was a good idea to sell off Bell Labs. :oo:)

I think the lesson here is if it ain't broke don't fix it. OTOH, once it is broke, fix the damn thing!

My two random Credits.

So we're drifting way off target...the breakup for AT&T was actually a good thing: it sparked a lot of innovation that otherwise would not have happened. To compete, new phone companies figured out new ways to do things. We would be even further behind the rest of the world in our networks (cellular, land line, internet) than we are now. The only real advantage would have been that once BellSouth decided that cellular phones were here to stay we would have had just one cellular format instead of the 2 mutually exclusive ones we currently have (disclaimer: I work in the telecomms industry). Remember: BS had to be sued to allow other phone manufacturers to be able to plug into their network (we'd still have black rotary phones if BS was still in charge I think).

Of course, we're getting back to 1 big telephone company it seems, but that becomes very politically-inclined hot potato discussion on the merits/problems with capitalism vs regulation and all that fun stuff. Stuff I star far, far way from.

well my cd just arrived safe and appartly sound (have not checked all the files yet reading one of the books I had been thinking about getting before the cd came out

Oh, I steal like crazy, but I tend to steal from the source material of novels and older movies. Like my current project, 'Traveller 1942'. It's the world as seen by WWII news reels mixed with the Flash Gordon serials. Nazis with rocketships and ray guns are a bad mix.

You surely have seen this (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=54717&filters=500_0_0_0) then... I find the mechanics to be bit clunky but lots that could be ported into an ATU.

Yep, Rocketship Empires is impressive, but I'm putting together somthing that can be run at a convention with people who've never played Traveller and a historical setup that takes less than five minutes that explains the game universe.
