Fighter Squadron Rules

The rulebook says that squadrons of up to ten ships (not necessarily fighters), can combine their guns together for a higher USP bonus. They can also maneuver together and essentially fly and fight as one ship.

But, here's my question, can the squadron be targeted as a single ship if it chooses to fight in this fashion? Or does flying in a squadron mean that the fighters can combine their guns together but their enemies have to target them one by one?

Bottom of page 178 in the 1st printing.

The answer is in the same section by inference. The ships have an average armor class. The only reason to have an average armor class is if the squadron is what you shoot at.

How do you deal damage to a squadron? Randomly determine which ship in the squad is hit? Deal hits equal to the USP of the attacking battery? Seems this could get tricky...

Things can become a real mess. However, unless you are dealing with a ship that is so armored that a single battery can't damage it, you are better firing individually. Since one point of damage is all you need to score internal damage. So if the target can be damaged by individual ships then you should not organize your ships into squadrons. IF you keep that in mind then the squadron rule will seldom come into play.

Excellent point, that helps a lot. Thanks!
