General Finding a PCs homeworld?!

Thanks. I'll have a look when I get up (day off :) )

I have a ship, a 600 Ton Subsidized Merchant, capable of Jump-3, operating in the Querion and Vilis subsectors of the Spinward Marches. The ship was built for the government of Thanbar for the trade with Retinae from the Imperium funneled through Quare in the Vilis subsector. Jump-3 was needed to get from Thanber to Retinae in one jump without making two Jump-2 through Faisal. It also allowed for a direct jump from Dekalb to Retinae, with a lucrative trade of sea food products from Dekalb to Retinae. Thanbar products, produced for Dekalb brought high prices there, while the Imperium picked up part of the subsidy for the advantage of Jump-3 service to Retinae. The ship, the Roving Minstrel, was built on Vilis, using Jump Drives imported for installation, as Vilis is restricted to a maximum of Jump Drive "H", when "J" is needed for the required performance. Thanbar's Class B starport cannot build starships, but at Tech Level C, can readily service Jump Drives up to Drive "N". The engineering crew comes from Thanbar, but the remainder of the crew hails from Vilis and Garda Vilis, it being cheaper to hire crew from there rather than ship them from Thanbar. The Roving Minstrel did extremely well in the trade between the Imperium and Retinae, as most of the cargos were of high importance with generous payment for fast delivery, while the triangular trade from Thanbar to Dekalf to Retinae proved to be a gold mine.

With the volume and value of the two trade routes, after three years the Roving Minstrel had paid for itself, while Thanbar brought another ship strictly for the Thanbar to Dekalb to Retinae route and two for the Imperium to Retinae route. The ship is now trading on its own, with the proviso that 10% of the profits are paid to Thanbar, and now has an exclusive trading contract between Ficant and Vilis. (Ficant is slightly different in my universe, as is Vilis and Garda Vilis.) A couple of the engineering crew are still from Thanbar, while the rest still claim Vilis or Garda Vilis as their home. (My crew is also a bit larger in my universe.)

I hope that this is of some assistance.

Wow. Certainly paid off fast, that ship!

I follow the thinking on crewing; for the tourny adventure, they're coming from an array of backgrounds, some Service, some commercial, a couple... let's just say, 'other' and leave it at that ;)

As to home worlds, one's currently from out of Sector (brought in during his Naval Service, mustered out in the 'Marches and never went back), the others, once I'm done searching for their home worlds, should be a bit closer to home (again, the 'Marches).

Travellermap is certainly being a very helpful tool, in this regard ;)

I found a PDF document called the "Traveller AR Starport Guide" by By Tony Howlett, with art by Andrew Boulton. Copyright is 2011. Page 7 shows a table of Trade Codes for character homeworlds that includes default skills for each homeworld. At the bottom of the page is a note to the effect that Barren worlds require a starport class of E or X. One of the skills is "Hostile Environment".

Any idea from which canonical resource this material may have been "lifted" from?
