Firefly

Has anyone seen this series? I've seen a couple of episodes and thought it could be a good background introduction to 2300AD before contact with aliens. Or possibly a 2300AD variant setting.

Thoughts?

Just do a search for "firefly" in all open forums and you'll find a ton of interest from everyone who has seen it

As for suitability for 2300AD I can't say, never got much into it. What little I do know there are definitly elements of the series that could work, even just as a flavor source for some down on their luck PC's.

Hmm. Lot's of people displaced by a cataclysmic war, a region of space where lots of people speak Mandarin, where the technology level, at least on the frontiers, is low enough that horses are a common mode of planetside transportation...

Doesn't sound like 2320AD at all...

Love the show, one of the few things both my wife and I could watch on TV. In fact, it was the only thing we watched, until those jackals at Fox cancelled it. My wife (who is not normally an SF fan) plans to buy it the day it comes out, and we plan to have a Firefly party for our friends and watch the 3 missing episodes.

Elements may creep into 2320.

Yes it's cancellation was a loss to all us closet gearheads. I did hear they were planing a movie, hope it is so and not another bit of wishful thinking inspired by fans.

Firefly is more like Traveller with the serial numbers rubbed off. It is exactly like Traveller except with no aliens. It is a great show and I was very disappointed that it got cancelled (so was my Dad by the way). But I can't wait to get the DVD's of the show and to see the movie they have planned in 2004 sometime...

I see it more like CT than 2300 too.

I can see you doing a 2300 game like it but to really get the feel I would go with version of traveller (CT the one most coming to mind).

I also want the DVDs.

Heh, we got those on SCIFI-UK when they showed it earlier in the year, and the episodes in order. Sometimes the midlantic tachyon projectors work in our favour, they did with Wolf Lake as well.

Not sure the engines on Serenity are jump drives. Actually not at all sure how they are supposed to work, but I get the impression it would operate more like stutterwarp than jump drive. Other than that, either 2300 or CT or even T20, the show screams for a RPG conversion.

I figure the shuttles are about 10 to 15 dtons each. The cargo bay is kinda tough to figure, been wearing out my tapes trying to work it out. So far I have 5 cow widths wide and 18 paces long, at the bottom, 3 or 4 levels tall. This is just the cargo bay.

There is a movie being planned, and apparently all the cast has been signed to start shooting early next year. The only clue that Joss has released as to plot is "Reavers".
