The mechanic of Traveller has been perfected over time and continues to be perfected by active playtesting therefore, I don't see the danger in just pretty pictures. Pretty pictures will sell more games, as it will become more appealing to the larger SF audience.Originally posted by TheVamp:
Because then Traveller would cease to be an excellent RPG and become just an excuse to make pretty CG pictures, like ZAON.![]()
I am not sure about that. Couldn't a royality system based on the sales figures be a basis for payment. Furthermore, these artists are by in large donating these to the larger community by posting them on Rendocity and similar sites. Rates could not be that high for material of this nature already completed.Seriously, probably because the kind of artists that do that kind of work demand premium rates (and rightly so). The kind of rates that Traveller publishers are usually unable to pay.
The high cost of art is constantly cited but surely if something is more than just a RPG but a treasured part of one's book collection, then it will have even greater value and hence increased sales.
Yes, I like Jessie's work alot but the majority of his drawings have been rendered in Black & White, it would be nice to include some of his colour drawings inside the books which again would add value to any book. The only comparable art I've seen is Jesse DeGraff's stuff for GURPS.
