fuel processor to life support

Water, methane, and ammonia, IMTU.

Water and ammonia processing gives O2 and N2 as byproducts.

I hadnt given thought to using the fuel processors to NOT render hydrogen.

I think that could be rigged as a temporary repair or workaround.

The fuel processors render water into H2 and O2. Could they also turn CO2 into O2 and C? Shouldn't they make awesome life support air scrubbers?

It's trivial to separate water with heat or power. We have both in abundance with fusion power plants.

Fuel processors or purifiers purify the hydrogen by removing impurities, i.e. other elements such as the extra oxygen or nitrogen collected from gas giants or oceans.

Presumably the life support system contains dedicated CO2 scrubbers.

I guess the internal air and water can also be flash-heated to remove any biological pollutants.

So which of the crew gets to spend their spare time de-coking the fuel purifier this time? Oh, Fred is low on the Engineering Pecking Order!

Not awesome at all; probably difficult, jury-rigged, and risky.

A perfect opportunity for the referee to cook up some task rolls required to keep the crew alive.

Done right, the players could be talking about it for years. THAT would make it awesome.

Use waste heat from the power plant to power chemical vapor deposition sequestration of carbon as diamond dust. Sandcaster refractive loads on the cheap?

Wow. Just the number of creative solutions tells me that this sort of material is EXACTLY what the players should be coming up with on the fly, rather than being codified in rules.

Myreaction is just the opposite...
