Gateway To Destiny

For what it's worth, I've been using the .pdf for the last six months and have found it very good. I just got my hands on the print copy and actually was able to visualize the size of it for the first time.

Bravo to QLI! This is the most in-depth region sourcebook I have ever seen published. Phenomenal.

Using it for my MongT game right now.

If you like border regions, it's a great region. It's a bit far to the nearest major interstellar state, so it's not quite as nifty that way as the Marches, Solomani Rim, and Reaver's Deep. But if you get players invested in the polities, you can have that same over-arching feel of conflict of great empires.

What it does have is enough unexplored and minimally controlled regions. It has a lot of history that is only partially developed. Myself, I picture the corporate sector wars as a BIG DEAL and use it to explain a lot of strange stuff in the Gateway Domain and Glimmerdrift.

Using it for mine too. It's just odd that, of all the Trav products, this has got to be the most complete.

Gateway to Destiny is one of my favs too. Pity it suffers in the art front. I could only dream if the old GDW artists go a go illustrating this one what a beauty for you. As for the writing...

Well, that is classic Martin for you. If anything the man knows his Traveller stuff and can weave it into an interesting storyline. I can even live with some of the compromises for the T20 crowd - 4 armed humans & uplifted bears by ignoring them. It is truly a wonder and a testament to when QLI ruled the waves...only wish that MGT** was more like this.

**if this thread turns into a hatefest against Mongoose or QLI, I will shut it down. As I think they are doing a fair job and at least getting product out...even if it ain't your grand daddy's Traveller.

I'm using it for my MGT game too. I think its great. I'm using the Crucis Margin sector

I noticed one tidbit the other day about refugees from the Psionic Suppressions living on the Droyne world in the Crucis Margin sector. That has tons of potential for adventure ideas. But the Lords of Thunder worlds in the Crucis Margin sector.

Because I hate .pdf's I hadn't read a whole ton of the supplement until now. With the book, it's easier to just read straight through and I saw the same thing on Friday! Definitely something to flag.

I may run the Kursis Charter using MgT; GtD will be used for (unfortunately limited) background and library data.

It is very well written; MJD certainly knows how to write Traveller.

I considered that, especially when (via my homeworld randomizer) two PCs ended up with homeworlds in the cluster (Sentry and Aleif). But I'm really more interested in running games in what I think of as the "crossroads" (the subsectors nearest to where the four sectors meet.)

For my campaign, I started everyone in Ley. Had a subsector randomizer. Per MongTrav rules, I let everyone pick one trade code for their planet. Then I decided which planet it was in that subsector.

Now, now... be fair. Those races are not inherently T20. There have been some pretty bad alien races put out for every edition of the rules that I have seen. And when all is said and done, are uplifted bears all that bad?

But ignoring what might be the more debatable elements for the moment, I have to agree, GtD looks like the best book of its nature that I have seen in quite a few years of gaming. I just wish that a couple more domains* would get the same treatment.

* And by "domain" I mean a region of 4 sectors, not the Impirial political unit. (Yes I am using the term very loosely.) I'd love to see the "domain" that is spinward of the Spinward Marches, sectors Far Frontiers, Foreven, Vanguard Reaches and Beyond, get the same treatment. Or Reaver's Deep, Daibei, Dark Nebula and Magyar.

Actually Imperial-Julian Border (Antares Domain) would be higher on my list. More interesting things going on there post 1116.

This is the one change I would like to see to the forum. With all the gifted writers on this board, it would be excellent for the COTI community to sit down and design a domain.

The Sydites are inspired by the Sydymites of the Judges Guild version of Ley, although in the JG stuff their empire is bigger. And I kinda like the Ursa.
