I see there's a few Traveller events at GenCon this year. Of course I'm only looking at the Saturday games.

One called 'Angry Justice', for "Traveller 2nd Edition" - which I'm assuming is MegaTraveller. Unless it's Mongoose 2nd Ed. Maybe I should sign up and find out.

And I have to get into one of these sessions:

Can You Survive Character Creation?
A T5 Event run by our very own Mr. Marc Miller. Repeated several times throughout the day. This might be my chance to pick up T5.

And another Traveller game called 'Easy Money (The Tureded Job)'.

I really might just play Traveller all day.

I'm registered for a Thursday afternoon session of character generation. I might peek in on some of the Traveller games being run.

And I'm pretty sure the Traveller games that list "2nd" as the version are referring to Mongoose 2nd.

Very much looking forward to GenCon this year ^_^

Do you have access to the Traveler 5 forum here? Any chargen issues would have errata by now.

Yes, but the latest errata and thread discussions still don't resolve all the issues. Some things like the Continue roll for several careers have contradictions in the 5.09 rules that haven't been resolved.

Hemdian made assumptions in the nice flow charts he created for chargen. Others may interpret things differently.

A couple of the careers list a characteristic for the target of the Continue roll in one place, and 2D6 <= 7 in another. Hemdian chose the latter. This makes it somewhat difficult to continue in those careers, so others might differ on this interpretation.

RPG flowcharts and rules examples rarely match what the stated rules say to do, because they don't get updated when the rules are changed.

So in general, go with what the stated rules say first.

If the text is ambiguous, look at the chart for that rule. And if the chart, for example, lists "INT" when you think it should have "END" listed instead, you being the Referee can make the edit yourself.

One seminar is called "By our powers combined" and is about using technology to improve the tabletop RPG experience.

Another is a "hot spot" briefing put on by the NSDM nerds about world trouble spots in the next year. These guys have DoD think tank day jobs and come out to GenCon every year to put on some amazing game and info sessions.

Great times, at GenCon.
