If you wanted to get cute about it? Lead or pewter generally has a given density, which is a given weight per cubic volume. Once you establish a given model as being an accurate depictation of a given Traveller class ship - such as a beowulf for example, any subsequent model can be classified against the beowulf by its given weight in lead/pewter and its relative "class" size by volume established.
