got the book (0) today...here i go...

Got Book 0, and went through it. It's basically just a light version of the normal ruleset. Think T20 Lite vs T20. The book covers all the basics, and offers the Navy and Army careers. It would be nice to have a few copies of these for players if you run a military campaign, and your players are too cheap to buy the main rulebook.

Boscos still has "Tons" (their inventory specialist is in my sunday game; I asked).

Jeff gave me the hardback Core Rulebook as a going away gift, and I am guessing that this is the book 0 being referred to here. I am with Sid on most of his points about chargen additions. Leave off the connections, events, and mishaps. I also don't like subdivisions in the skills. I am aware that other versions have changed how skills work and even which skills do what. I quess that is why I have stuck to CT and MT and use High Guard for shipbuilding. After awhile, realism defeats playability for me.

Some things I do like: passenger fees based on distance travelled, JOT usage I can see, but I still prefer to use it to allow using a similar or related skill at a lesser level, a few other things look good too. I guess it will be used as more stuff to be intergrated into my CT/MT mix.

Thanks again for the book Jeff

I've noticed that MGT is more of a hit for the less hard-core CT players. Those who love CT seem to be sticking with CT (I sure am), but those player other editions seem to be migrating to MGT.

MGT has the advantage og being "open source" (Except for careers, aliens, the OTU, and attribute contribution to tasks.... wonder what else is missing... I'll see as I rework it.)

I'm working (slowly) on a revised pen/damage combat system (reengineered from MeT for use with MGT)

MGT also has the advantage of being used as the core for other sci-fi lines. For someone like me, who wants options to run sci-fi games in other settings, that's very attractive. It's a big slam-dunk if Mongoose is actually going to produce the sci-fi setting you want (say B5 or Hammer's Slammers) - no conversion or extrapolating necessary. I wish Mongoose could have gotten Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek.

I got a copy of Book 0 along with MGT Spinward Marches from Noble Knight Games (book 0 is out of stock now). Book 0 is a nice little freebie and my collector side is very happy that I got a copy.

JAFARR: Book 0 is a softbound book with about 30 pages or so (just guessing at page number from memory) that was a giveaway item for Free RPG Day 2008. It sounds like your talking about the actual hardbound MGT corebook, a nice gift indeed!

Some hard core CT players.
I used to be a CT zealot but am now a MGT fan.
