*Finally* got my sexy new computer - quad core, 8Gb, 24" monitor, and best of all a gfx card that doesn't go eek and fall over every half hour! :)

Now I've got to reinstall everything...

I'm very jealous! Now I see why you asked me to remind you when you got your new puter. I've got to wait a couple more years when I can justify a quad-core....but I may just be getting a flat screen TV to use a monitor for christmas - if I'm very nice to my dear wife.

Very cool congrats! I bought (well paid for) a new computer about 6 months ago off a friend of mine. He just had fix up a few things. I am hoping to get it very soon. (Actually I have given up on gettig it and the $300.00 he owes me.)

Still using my AMD K2 500.

PS did you get the PM I sent you a couple days back?

Congrats Andrew!

Don't give it control over the pod bay doors.

Also - I may have something new for you in a few days - the summer season is over and I've got a bit more time on my hands even with work school scuba and the rest :)

Yeah, I know. Maybe when this one crashes, or gets full.
It's not full yet by any means, even after about ten years, but then I'm not an artist or computer gamer. 4Gb is an awful lot of Word documents. :)

What on earth would I do with the other 76Gb?

Well, I could send you my Excel spreadsheet that calculates entire subsectors at one shot (with the entire system - LBB6), with sector, quadrant, and subsector charts. That would eat about 55MB.... So, until you turn the formulas into numbers, thats about 1GB a sector. :D

The uncompressed files for my movies are a couple of gig each, and the calendars are a few hundred meg, so it all adds up. I doubt if I'll come close to filling it, though.

True, Plankowner, I may well have to move with the times shortly. ;)
I just don't have enough hobby time available to get hooked on stuff that eats computer space, I suppose.

A copy of Fritz's sector generator would be a very powerful incentive to upgrade, though. (Was that an offer?) I daresay a sector would take a while to generate at 166MHz and 64k RAM, too.

Oh yes, it would, Icosa.... Even with 1GB of memory, I have to turn off automatic recalculation in Excel to have it load in a reasonable amount of time.

And, I know programming this would probably be smaller, but Excel is something I know, and programming nowadays seems beyond my grasp. :nonono:

Might also require some software updates to use his version of Excel
