Heaven and Earth

I haven't tried it either on Vista. Have you tried all the different compatability modes? I had to work my trough them to get GURPS Character Creater to work on my Vista Ultimate 32 install.

Yes I have, it doesn't work on Vista Home premium nor Win 7 "Premium". It is a VERY old pgm that needs to be ported to modern O/S's to remain relevant.

I see no reason why it shouldn't work with MgT. admittedly, I'm not over familiar with H&E or MgT, but H&E generates lists of worlds with Starport type, Size, Atmosphere, Hydrographics, Population, Government, Law Level and Tech Level, and all of these descriptors are the same in MgT as they are in earlier versions. H&E also describes gas giants and trade routes IIRC. The only thing that might not be compatible is the trade routes (maybe), but H&E will still take the grunt out of generating all those worlds.
I'm curious to know where you feel the incompatibility lies, HGB.
H&E is a lot less compatible with MTU than it is with MgTU, IMO.

MGT lacks any system generation; it stops with mainworld. It has some hints towards expanded system gen.

That said, H&E will generate data for you that you can use easily enough in MGT, but won't include the MGT modifiers for population not starport.

CT generates the stats in the order presented in the UWP.

MGT generates in a different order, and has additional modifiers due to that order... for example, starport is generated AFTER pop and gov, and pop is modified due to atmosphere... unlike CT.

So while the results will be Traveller, and will be usable in MGT, they won't be MGT-Generatable in all cases.

Because the gen is different than CT.

Thanks for the reply, HGB, but Aramis was more informative.

So - it wouldn't stop me from using H&E if I wanted to create a Mongoose compatible sector, but YMMV, Yamsi. :)

And of course I'd prevent myself from using H&E because they're not licenced for use together!

Glad Aramis was able to help you out. He's a walking Trav encyclopedia.

Actually, that is no legal impediment for a person using it on their own computer for private use. So, don't NOT use it for that reason. :)

Even if the rolling of the world UPP is different and has different modifiers, we should not forget H&E allows you to imput a UPP and it generates all the system, so I think it may be used with MgT generated UPPs to develop a system.

I've used H&E and Universe to create Mongoose style systems. Two things:

1) Additional trade codes in Mongoose, so you have to add those by hand after checking the UPP against the requirements.

2) The dice modifiers for codes and levels are different in Mongoose.

I had absolutely no problem doing it. Easy and fun, it also really helps you get a grasp on the structure of a system once you start monkeying with it.

I personally do use H&E for generating system details and world maps for MGT. It's not like anyone's going to say "What?!? You use H&E for MongTrav? I'm not playing!" And I run it fine under Vista for Business.

I also use Galactic 2.4 for MongTrav, modifying the trade codes for each system's main world by hand. But then I'm masochistic when it comes to Traveller. ;)
